Fantastic news for our beloved and wonderful Rector!!!
Love from Grace Memorial to the Cathedral of St. Mark's!

St. Mark’s Cathedral has called the Rev. Martin Elfert to serve as its 18th Dean and Rector.

The Rev. Elfert currently serves as Rector of Grace Memorial Episcopal Church in Portland, Oregon, and previously served at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Spokane, Washington. He is also a trainer with the College for Congregational Development.

Throughout the search process, the committee and Vestry were especially drawn to his theological depth, engaging preaching, gentle pastoral presence, and gifts as a teacher and liturgist.

The Rev. Elfert will begin his ministry at St. Mark’s on October 11. His installation will take place October 18, following the 2026 Diocesan Convention in Salt Lake City.

We give thanks for the faithful work of St. Mark’s Search Committee and Vestry, and we look forward to welcoming the Rev. Elfert to Utah and to this new chapter in the life of the Cathedral.

At Grace, we love to laugh, and today after our Garden Club had almost finished their 4 hours of beautifying the Grace gardens… this photographer took a quick photo of the leader’s car ready to go home.

For a moment we thought it was a bird…as in
“put a bird on it!”

A special shoutout to our Garden Club members who volunteer and have spent an average of 6 hrs per week since they first began working on the grounds in earnest in May of 2025!

This is based on an average of three workers working for two hours every week. That comes to 360 volunteer hours in 15 months - not counting the weekly hand watering,
and yes, they garden and work throughout the winter months!

Thank you Kevin W, Nancy E, Nancy M, Alicia L, Cathy G, Kathy B, Tamara B, Niki M for your green thumbs and for tending the beautiful flowers in our gardens!
