At yesterday’s “Welcome Back, Sunday”, we were especially blessed to have His Grace Bishop Nektarios offer a blessing to our Sunday School children as they begin another year of growing in their Orthodox faith!

Our students then celebrated the First Day of Sunday School with ice cream treats!

On Monday, September 14, we commemorate the Great Feast of the Elevation of the Holy Cross. Please join us for liturgy at 9:30am.

Two events are commemorated this day: first, the finding of the Cross by St. Helen in the Holy Land in the fourth century; and second, the return of the Cross from Persia to Jerusalem in 628.

This Feast celebrates the triumph of the Cross over the powers of the world, and the glory of the Cross as a source of light, hope and victory for Christ’s people. It is also a time to celebrate the work of redemption accomplished through the Cross by the Lord for the salvation of mankind.

On this solemn anniversary, we gather in prayer and remembrance for all those whose lives were taken, for the families who continue to carry their loss, and for all whose lives were forever changed.

May the Lord grant eternal rest to those who have fallen asleep and bring comfort, healing, peace to those who continue to grieve, and strength to those who serve and protect.

May we never forget.
May we always remember.
May we continue to choose faith, love, and peace.

Today we commemorate the Great Feast of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos.

According to the ancient tradition of the Church, the Theotokos was born of barren and aged parents, Joachim and Anna, about the year 16 or 17 before the birth of Christ.

The Nativity of the Theotokos marks a dawn of salvation, for in her birth the way is prepared for Christ’s coming. Where Eve brought disobedience, the purity of the Mother of God made possible the Incarnation, through which the Fall is reversed and mankind is redeemed.

The first major Feast of the Orthodox Calendar is September 8th, the Birth of the Theotokos, and the last major Feast is August 15th, the Dormition of the Theotokos. Our whole year begins and ends with the life of the Mother of God!

The first Sunday of September means “Welcome Back to Special Needs Sunday School.”
Yesterday’s lesson on Archangel Michael and the Miracle at Chonae was full of faith, fun, and a little water gun action!
Students a blast using water guns to shoot targets and act out how the waters were redirected to protect the church.
Join us on the first Sunday of every month for Special Needs Sunday School!
