🤝✨ 250 Sisters Who Shaped the USA: Sr. Kathleen Somerville, OP

A compassionate minister, social worker and community advocate, Sr. Kathleen Somerville, OP, has spent decades serving the Manorhaven and Port Washington communities of New York. As Director of Parish Social Ministry and Outreach at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church, she has quietly and tirelessly walked alongside people in times of need.

Since the ministry’s beginnings in September 1981, Sr. Kathy has helped provide crisis support, direct social services and critical food distribution to individuals and families in the community. Her work reflects a deep commitment to seeing the needs of others and responding with compassion, dignity and practical care.

Through her faithful service, Sr. Kathy reminds us that ministry is often found in the everyday work of showing up, lending a hand and helping neighbors find hope. Her generosity, dedication and love for her community are a beautiful witness to God’s call to serve others. ❤️

It was a joy and a blessing to celebrate the confirmation of three students last week and to welcome a new member into our church family.

Moments like these remind us of God’s faithfulness at work among us... calling, nurturing, and gathering people into the life of Christ.

Members of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior (Port Washington) volunteered at Laundry Love last night. Shown here are the folks who worked the second shift. LCOS is glad to support this important community program through volunteer time and financial gifts throughout the year. ✌🏻💜💒

*Laundry Love is a nationwide initiative and non-profit movement that partners with local groups and laundromats to provide free laundry services to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship. The program supplies the quarters, detergent, and dryer sheets so participants can wash their clothes and bedding free of charge.
