News from the Saint Andrew Lutheran Church Council: written by Susan Schmatjen
The council met on Monday, May the 18th from 5:30 to 10:00. Lots of things to discuss.
First we would like to again extend an invitation to anyone who would like to attend our meetings to feel free to do so. If you have something to present it is really helpful if you can let us know because we usually have a very full adgenda.
We do have some exciting news. One of the ideas that we have been working on for some time is to share our space with another congregation. We wanted to create some revenue but also to find a congregation that would be a good fit here. So we have entered into an agreement with Messiah Community Church. Several months ago talks began with them and Council members along with Pastor Kari worshipped with them on March 8 at their current location. They were very welcoming and although their worship style is very different from ours it was a great experience. They were here to meet with us and see our space yesterday and an agreement will be signed very soon. They will hold choir practice on Saturday evenings and their worship service on Sunday evenings from 5 to 9. Some of their members will attend fellowship on June 14th and their first service here will be that evening. They have extended an open invitation for us to worship with them any Sunday at 5:00 o’clock.
And more exciting news. Pastor Kari has been our pastor for a little over 6 years. She puts a tremendous amount of time, effort and love into our community. Members who are here during the week for various reasons report that she is always here. She holds evening meetings when she has to leads a Zoom bible study from her home on Tuesdays. At least she gets to share that time with her precious pets as they attend Bible Study. As a matter of fact she attended and altar guild meeting, helped to decorate for Pentecost and met with Messiah Community Church on her day off just yesterday. She even excused herself from a recent council meeting to be at the bedside of an ailing member. All of this being said Council has granted her a summer sabattical. She will be gone all of July to rest, take care of herself, pray and do whatever she chooses to do. There will be a Pastor and a council member on call during this time. We will take that opportunity to hear from other Pastors and we ask that everyone lift Pastor Kari up in prayer during that time so that it is the gift to her that she so richly deserves.
