Each week, we mean it when we say, Whoever you are, and wherever you find yourself on the journey of faith, you are welcome at Christ Church, as you are, to receive the riches of God's blessings, so freely given. We're

on the same spot in the heart of the city of Philadelphia where prayers were first said in 1695. "No church played a more important role in the American Revolution," says a prominent historian. Seven signers of the Declaration of Independence are buried in our hallowed ground, giving rise to the moniker the Nation's Church. Yet at 324 years old, Christ Church has still only just begun - and we still need all pilgrims and seekers to help us discern our way. We invite you -- for one Sunday or for many -- to help what has been nicknamed Old Christ Church become New Christ Church. Together, we listen for God's voice to beckon us into the next revolution, which today we hear as a call to an inclusive community of radical welcome, standing fast in service to Philadelphia, proud of our traditions of worship from the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer, yet seeking new prayers, music, and interpretations of Holy Scripture that will expand our trust in the magnitude of God's grace. No word is more worn out in the our churches than Welcome, so we simply ask you to join us and help us as we seek to understand how God calls us all to feast at God's Welcome Table.

Meet The Rev. Samantha Vincent-Alexander, Rector of Christ Church in Philadelphia. Before her time here, she served as the rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Hampton Virginia. There she navigated through current issues, with a congregation first established in 1610.

Samantha has been active in the ministry of the diocese and the national church, serving as the President of the Standing Committee as well as the Chair of the Commission on Ministry, in addition to numerous other committees and commissions. She attended the General Convention as a deputy in 2012, 2015, and 2018.

She is married to another Episcopal priest, and they are proud parents of a passionate and rambunctious boy. She is a certified yoga instructor and loves to teach it in the church community.

Dear Christ Church Family,

I am delighted to announce that we have called an Associate Rector. I want to express my gratitude to our small search committee who interviewed the candidates and helped with the final decision. That committee was made up of Ken Oakes (former rector’s warden), Anne McAteer (accounting warden), Andy Halstead, and Helen Niedermayer. We were fortunate to have a wonderful group of clergy apply. Our hope was to find someone who could help build our children and youth ministry while also assisting me in creating more opportunities for Christian Education for people of all ages. We were working on the strategic plan at the same time we were doing these interviews. We wanted to make sure we had someone who would help us bring this plan to reality.

We called a priest who has a passion for children and youth as well as gifts that will enable her to serve in many capacities in our church. The Rev. Clare Stern-Burbano (she/her) has served as the curate for Campus Ministry at Kansas State University and the Associate for college, youth, and children’s ministry at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kansas City, MO. She is a graduate from the Univ. of Dubuque Theological Seminary (MDiv.) and from Bishop Kemper School for Ministry (Anglican Studies). Rev. Clare was ordained to the priesthood in January 2026. She is also the founder and co-host of the All Things…Episcopal podcast. Rev. Clare comes from an interfaith family and found a spiritual home in the Episcopal Church when she was nine years old. Outside of ministry, she loves spending time with her husband, Andrés, and their ever-adventurous son, Ollie J. When she’s not chasing Ollie, she can usually be found at hot yoga, running outside, or securing her next 2/3 decaf iced Americano. Her energy and enthusiasm are infectious and she has a wonderful pastoral presence. I am very much looking forward to working with her and I can’t wait for you all to meet her on Oct. 4th.

Faithfully,
Samantha
