Each week, we mean it when we say, Whoever you are, and wherever you find yourself on the journey of faith, you are welcome at Christ Church, as you are, to receive the riches of God's blessings, so freely given. We're

on the same spot in the heart of the city of Philadelphia where prayers were first said in 1695. "No church played a more important role in the American Revolution," says a prominent historian. Seven signers of the Declaration of Independence are buried in our hallowed ground, giving rise to the moniker the Nation's Church. Yet at 324 years old, Christ Church has still only just begun - and we still need all pilgrims and seekers to help us discern our way. We invite you -- for one Sunday or for many -- to help what has been nicknamed Old Christ Church become New Christ Church. Together, we listen for God's voice to beckon us into the next revolution, which today we hear as a call to an inclusive community of radical welcome, standing fast in service to Philadelphia, proud of our traditions of worship from the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer, yet seeking new prayers, music, and interpretations of Holy Scripture that will expand our trust in the magnitude of God's grace. No word is more worn out in the our churches than Welcome, so we simply ask you to join us and help us as we seek to understand how God calls us all to feast at God's Welcome Table.

On June 5 at 1:00pm, National Gun Violence Awareness Day, a prolonged period of bell ringing and other sound-making will take place across Philadelphia in collaboration with Penn’s Office of the Chaplain, Interfaith Philadelphia and many faith-based organizations and other partners. Toll the Bell is not a profile of tragedy; it is a resounding call to action — a literal ringing of the bell — urging us to work towards transformative change for the future of our city. Christ Church will be participating in Toll the Bell and this will be combined with a short organ recital at Noon by visiting organist Ted Babbitt, followed by a brief tour of the organ and bell tower (ca. 12:30-12:55), which will precede the 1pm tolling of the Christ Church bells. This event is free and open to the public.

I’ve been so amazed by many of the people at Christ Church who have worked for decades on important causes. One of our more senior members showed up at the Ice Vigil after walking 30 minutes using her walker. Enny is a reminder that justice takes a long time and the best way not to get discouraged is to show up and use our voice and presence. We are at the Ice headquarters every Monday at 11.

The Episcopal Church *is* speaking out on many of the important issues shaping our nation and world, even if those voices don’t always make the headlines.

We invite any would-be singers to join our choir for summer services on June 28 and July 5 to celebrate America 250. Interested in singing with the choir next season? We will hold open rehearsals starting in September. Do you play an instrument or would like to learn to ring our tower bells? Don’t hide it, please share your talent! (We can also use your time and treasure, as we are always looking for volunteers and gifts to support our concerts and other special music). For any of the above, please contact Director of Music Parker Kitterman.

The Episcopal Church is speaking out on many of the important issues shaping our nation and world, even if those voices are not always highlighted in mainstream news coverage. While comments from figures like the pope often make headlines, many people are less familiar with the role of the Episcopal Church’s Presiding Bishop and other church leaders.
