We mentioned this policy change at the fall clergy meeting; this post includes basic information and some resources that might be helpful to those who are impacted.
On October 1, federal law will change Medicaid eligibility for non-U.S. citizens. As a result, many people who qualify for Medicaid today will lose their coverage because of new restrictions based on immigration status.
These changes will have a community-wide impact, as more people may be forced to rely on emergency health care when they can no longer access routine and preventive care.
If you or someone in your family will lose Medicaid coverage, free and low-cost health care options are available. Our partners at CHI Health provided this list of free and low-cost healthcare clinics with locations throughout Omaha that do not require a specific immigration status to receive care:
