SU***DE ON A SUNDAY...
I pray that someone will be discerning enough to recognize that someone's I'm fine...may really be I’m fighting to stay alive.
I pray that someone will be compassionate enough to sit with somebody in their pain without judging, preaching, or rushing them through it.
I pray that someone will be intentional enough to make the call, send the text, knock on the door, and ask the question one more time...Are you really okay?
I pray that someone will be patient enough to listen when the answer takes longer than expected.
I pray that someone will be loving enough to remind somebody that their presence matters, their life has value, and this painful moment does not have to become their final moment.
I pray that someone will be discerning enough to intercede when God places a person heavily on their heart even when they don't know why.
And yes...
I pray that someone will be bold enough to call out the Spirit of Su***de on a Sunday.
Because everybody sitting in a sanctuary isn't safe from suicidal thoughts.
Everybody lifting their hands isn't whole.
Everybody shouting isn't celebrating.
Everybody smiling isn't okay.
Somebody can love God and still be hurting.
Somebody can have faith and still need help.
Somebody can pray and still need somebody to talk to.
Somebody can be surrounded by people and still feel painfully alone.
Church, we have to learn how to hear what people aren't saying.
Today, don't just speak in tongues...speak to somebody.
Don't just lay hands...lend an ear.
Don't just say, I'm praying for you...check on them.
Don't just discern the struggle...respond with compassion.
And to the person who may be fighting silently today:
Please stay.
Tell somebody.
Let somebody into the fight.
Your story does not have to end in the chapter that hurts.
We rebuke every lie that says your life doesn't matter, that nobody cares, that things will never change, or that the world would be better without you.
You are worth the call.
You are worth the conversation.
You are worth getting help.
You are worth staying.
This Sunday, I pray somebody SEES somebody.
I pray somebody HEARS somebody.
I pray somebody CALLS somebody.
I pray somebody STAYS with somebody.
Because sometimes the miracle isn't just what happens at the altar...
Sometimes the miracle is somebody making it to Monday.
