We had a great morning celebrating our first Sunday with Pastor Karen!

We are so excited for our first Sunday with Pastor Karen Rice Ratzlaff as our new pastor. Here is a message from her:

Dear Trinity Heights UMC,
My name is Karen Rice Ratzlaff, and I am honored to be appointed by Bishop David Wilson to serve as your pastor!

While my appointment began on August 1, I am writing to you from the UM Discipleship Ministry School of Congregational Development in Columbus, Ohio. I had already purchased plane tickets and made reservations to attend this event prior to receiving a new appointment. While it did not feel like an ideal start, it has been great to be present in this space and think and pray about the ministry we will share together. My heart for ministry has always been about the local church, and I am feeling so grateful for the possibilities ahead.

While I know some things about Trinity Heights, I know there is much to learn about who you are and your unique call and mission as a congregation. You have taken many faithful steps and have so many gifts in your midst. I know I will be inspired by the individuals and families who call THUMC home, and I can’t wait to meet each of you. I really appreciate your Executive Committee creating the opportunity for us to gather in small groups in the coming weeks, and for those of you willing and brave enough to participate. I know life is full, and your time is a gift. I am also grateful for the opportunity to greet you after worship this Sunday.

During the month of August, I will shape our worship around the theme of Transitions. As I have been working to end faithfully and change my own focus these past few weeks, I have been aware that it’s a big change in the life of your congregation too – saying goodbye to a dear pastor, and saying hello to someone new so soon. This is also a time of year that brings a number of transitions as children and families head back to school. There are constant changes in our health, relationships, work, and the world around us too. I am confident that God’s never-failing love will see us through, and I look forward to sharing the sacred stories of our faith.

Again, it is a joy to be appointed to serve with you!

May God’s grace and love be with you today,

Karen

As we welcome Pastor Karen to Trinity Heights UMC, she would appreciate the opportunity to meet with church members and learn more about our congregation. To facilitate these gatherings, we plan to hold a series of small-group meet-and-greet sessions.

Our goal is for each group to include 5–8 participants. Sessions will last approximately 1½ hours, with a maximum length of 2 hours.

This survey is intended to help us identify the dates and times that work best for the greatest number of people. Please respond to each question. For questions regarding days and times, select all options that would work for you. We will use the responses to determine the most convenient meeting schedule. The link to the survey is: https://forms.gle/MTTQ9A56uoKJVyW18. Click on the link and it will take you to the survey.

Small groups will be formed based on survey responses. Every effort will be made to make these gatherings accessible to all interested participants.

A virtual/video option will also be available. If none of the listed options work for your schedule, please indicate what days and times would be most convenient for you.

If you have any questions, please contact:
