St. Matthew's Episcopal Church

St. Matthew's Episcopal Church We are living into God's vision for us as a beloved community and disciples of Christ. St. (BCP p. 855). No matter who you are, the Episcopal Church Welcomes You!

Matthew's was founded in Newton as part of the Episcopal Church, whose mission as stated in our catechism to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ. Matthew's is part of the Diocese of Kansas under the guidance of leadership of Bishop Cathleen Chittenden Bascom, and as a part of the Episcopal Church we are led by Presiding Bishop Michael Curry. The Episcopal Church was refer

red to as Via Media or "The Middle Way" between Roman Catholicism and Puritanism. Just as Aristotle found the virtues of Justice and Courage to be The Middle Way between extremes of both sides of any issue, the Episcopal Church seeks to be that Middle Way in our modern world. What We as Episcopalians Believe:
- We believe in inclusion, allowing men and women to serve in any position they feel called to, including leadership at the highest levels.
- We believe you don't need to be ordained to serve within the Church, and incorporate lay people into church leadership.
- We believe that leadership is a gift from God and can be expressed by anyone, regardless of sexual orientation or identity.
- We believe that reading and interpreting the Bible requires the equal use of three lenses: Scripture, Tradition and Reason.
- We believe that God loves you -- No Exceptions. Curious about the Episcopal Church? Join us for worship Sundays at 10:15 am or Wednesdays at 6:30 pm for Evening Prayer.
