Mennonite Women USA

Mennonite Women USA Our vision: Engaging the prophetic voices of all women as we honor our stories, share grace, practice justice and embrace healing.

Mennonite Women USA is the women’s organization of Mennonite Church USA. Our history began in 1916-1917 with Women’s Missionary and Service Commission and Women in Mission. These two organizations merged into Mennonite Women in 1997 and became Mennonite Women USA in 2003.

JOIN IN TOMORROW!

The Psalmist asked to behold the beauty of the Lord, and we're taking that ancient prayer seriously. Sweetness, pleasantness, friendliness, graciousness, goodness, loveliness, splendor, delightfulness: there is so much waiting to be noticed in the stubborn grace of everyday life.

Come behold it with us at Coffee & Conversation as Cyneatha leads a time of storytelling and holy reflection.

We'll gather by Zoom on Thursday, 5/28 at 6 pm Eastern / 5 pm Central / 4 pm Mountain / 3 pm Pacific.

We know there are better ways to engage in conflict. We believe the difficult work of transforming it forms us into the peacemakers we are called to be. But are we seeking out the tools we need?

Kiara Yoder pursues peace through a three-day MC USA and Eastern Mennonite Seminary workshop on conflict transformation. Her reflections call us deeper into the pursuit, reminding us that we don't begin with answers, but with a posture of listening.

Hasset started at with a calling well underway. Before leaving Ethiopia, she had launched a women's fellowship, led Bible studies, sung in the choir, and spent two years working with a nonprofit serving her local community. Now, as she graduates with a Master's in Theology and Peace Studies, that calling has deepened and grown more focused.

Hasset is a recipient of the MW USA International Women's Fund (IWF) scholarship, which for over 20 years has supported women around the world in pursuing higher education towards church leadership. She is also a member of Yellow Creek Mennonite Church, where she has been part of the community for two years, teaching Sunday school and occasionally preaching.

Her vision for the future is both pastoral and prophetic. Returning to Ethiopia, Hasset hopes to train church leaders who lead with wisdom, compassion, and a commitment to justice, regardless of a person's gender or social class. She is particularly passionate about equipping women to step fully into their gifts. "Too often the Bible has been misused to keep them silent or limit their calling," she writes, and she intends to be part of changing that.

At AMBS, Hasset has found both the theological grounding and practical formation she needs for this work. Her classes and community experiences have reshaped how she understands church leadership, and she hopes to carry those lessons into partnerships with fellow theologians and nonprofit organizations working toward peace, equality, and community development.

The journey has not been without challenge. Adjusting to a new culture, navigating financial pressures, and being far from family have all been part of her story. Yet through it all, she describes experiencing God's faithfulness and the sustaining support of her community.

The IWF scholarship, made possible by generous donors to MW USA is currently supporting 44 women across 15 countries. To become an IWF donor or to continue your support, follow this link:

Two new books to bring to you women's group!

Friend of MW USA Lisa Stenger has just released 'True Reflection: Focusing on Your Precious Identity with Purpose,' a five-session women's Bible study through the life of Moses, designed for both group and personal use. It invites participants to heal emotionally, rediscover their God-given identity, and release shame through the biblical stories.

MW USA Executive Director Cyneatha Millsaps writes in the foreword: "True Reflection reminds us that it doesn't matter where we start, or even if we have gotten off track. Being truthful with ourselves and knowing who we are in Christ will get us through." Lisa is also listed on our new Speaker's Bureau!

Lisa sent a friend our way too. Bonnie Moyer's new memoir 'Fearless: Living God's Gift of Faith' traces one woman's journey from a childhood shaken by crisis to faith-shaping encounters with God and an unexpected entry into Mennonite life. Told in 60 essays, it's a story that invites readers to slow down and watch for God's presence along the way.

This month's scholar spotlight features Hasset, an IWF recipient completing her Master's in Theology and Peace Studies at AMBS, whose journey from Ethiopia to Indiana has deepened her calling to equip women in ministry and train justice-minded church leaders.

For transplant patients and their families, waiting is an act of faith that tests endurance. April is National Donate Life Month: a time to honor that wait and the donors who end it.

At a recent Coffee and Conversation, we were entrusted with Diana's heart transplant story. In the telling, Diana reminded us how fragile and precious life is and how much we need each other.

One donor can impact more than 75 lives. Think of all that becomes possible when someone chooses to give. Register to be a donor at >>>https://donatelife.net

In our latest Women’s Voices, Linda reviews a new book by scientist-theologian Steve Pardini whose dual expertise shapes a compelling case for creation care. Linda’s standout takeaway: climate change is the greatest moral issue of our time, and this book is a call for Christians to talk about it. Read her full review to find out why she appreciates the book's rigor amid reverence and hope amid urgency.

Agnes is serving with her gifts as a church elder, youth leader, and ministry voice in Sierra Leone, and in her final year of theological training with an International Women's Fund (IWF) scholarship, she's just getting started.

For over 20 years, Mennonite Women USA's IWF has supported women like Agnes in pursuing theological education and church leadership training. Because when women are equipped and empowered, the whole community is strengthened.

What does it look like when women of faith see a need and simply, respond?

It looks like Liz Breckbill in Colorado, leading a bike coalition that gets free transportation into the hands of people who need it most. It looks like Pastor Alaina Dobkowski in Michigan, helping a congregation of eight households grow a cross-denominational peace coalition of more than 80 neighbors. It looks like Pastor Dianne Garcia in San Antonio, equipping immigrant neighbors to host simple shared meals, building community one table at a time.

Four Mennonite Church USA congregations recently received 2025 Justice Fund grants to address urgent needs in immigration justice and climate justice. Three of those grants are in the hands of women who saw gaps in their communities and moved to fill them. Read their stories here:

MW USA celebrates these leaders and invite you to be stirred by them. Justice doesn't always begin with grand gestures. It begins with noticing. With asking, as Pastor Garcia put it, "how can we engage the people we're serving to lead what we're trying to do?"

Take a look at your own ministry. What needs are visible to you right now, big or small? Every step toward justice, however humble, is movement in the right direction. We are all, together, building something. These women remind us what it looks like to begin. What justice work is God already calling your group toward? Let their courage be your invitation.
