For peacemaking and care…
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Washington Office

This week Congress begins its work on the Pentagon budget. This year's budget requests an unconscionable $1.15T for endless war, wasteful projects, and massive giveaways to weapons contractors. Like last year, Congress plans to pay for it with cuts to programs that help everyday Americans and the global poor afford food, childcare, education, and healthcare.

This immoral, reckless budget contradicts Christ’s call for peacemaking and care. Contact Congress today NO on the proposed Pentagon budget and instead follow Christ’s teachings by investing in the poor and vulnerable at home and abroad.

Use the link in the comments to find out more and, by June 4th, easily email your Members of Congress. Or call 202-224-3121 and ask to be connected to your Members of Congress.

Saved by Its Friends
Today being the last day of National Historic Preservation Month, we highlight one of our state’s earliest, most visible saves – and a once-a-year prime time to see it up close. Old Drawyers Church near Odessa was built in 1769-73 at the site of its Presbyterian congregation’s original wooden church. The stately brick church closed in 1861 after members built a new church in town. The Friends of Old Drawyers formed in 1895 to preserve the old church and grounds, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and noted by a Delaware State Historical Marker. The public is invited to its annual opening day/public service at 2 p.m. this Sunday, June 7.

Morning Prayer

God of grace, we come into this space carrying things we don’t always talk about. Some of us are carrying frustration, disappointment, hurt, exhaustion, and anger that has been building for a long time. Search our hearts today. Help us to be honest about what is happening within us. Where there is bitterness, bring healing. Where there is anger, bring peace. Where there are wounds we have ignored, bring restoration. Teach us to listen well, respond wisely, and reflect your love even in difficult moments. Speak to us today in a way that changes us from the inside out. In Jesus’ name, AMEN.
