The afternoon will include presentations, fellowship, and resources to help grandparents pass on the Catholic faith to future generations. This event will conclude with Mass and a Blessing of Grandparents at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, celebrated by Cardinal Joseph W. On Aug. 23, 120 engaged couples gathered at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in for the Archdiocese of Newark’s first-ever Mass for Engaged Couples. During the bilingual Mass, Bishop Bismarck Chau blessed the couples and reflected on the sacrament of marriage and the call to unconditional love.

The Office for Family Life Ministry, in collaboration with Ministerio Hispano and the Office For Lifelong Faith Formation of the Archdiocese of Newark and Bayard, warmly invites grandparents, great-grandparents, and those preparing to become grandparents to join us for a special Grandparents' Afternoon of Reflection.

Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 1:30–4:30 p.m.
Archdiocesan Pastoral Center, Newark
Enjoy an afternoon of prayer and fellowship with fellow grandparents, with keynote presentations by Dr. Marylin Kravatz-Toolan (English) and Deacon Asterio Velasco (Spanish)

Our celebration concludes with the 5:00 p.m. Vigil Mass and a special Blessing of Grandparents, celebrated by Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., at the Cathedral Basilica in Newark.

The Office for Family Life Ministry invites all parents and families grieving the loss of a child to the Annual Mass for Hope and Remembrance on Thursday, June 4th at 7:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Parish in Bloomfield. What is the key to a successful, long-lasting marriage? According to Timothy and Mary O’Shea, who are celebrating 60 years of married life, it is patience and prayer.

“Pray the Rosary, be kind, and receive the sacraments on a regular basis to strengthen your faith,” Mary O’Shea told Jersey Catholic.

On May 3, Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin celebrated the annual Wedding Anniversary Mass at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, honoring couples marking milestone years of marriage.
