John Romeri Appointed Organist

We are pleased to announce that Dr. John Romeri has agreed to join us permanently as Organist at Grace Church in Newark. He will be joining the musical team that includes Emmanuel Bonilla-Acosta, Director of Choristers, Rachel Nicastro, our cantor, and Michael Banks, our Ministry Fellow who is also working to form a volunteer choir.

John Romeri has been a Church Musician for over 50 years, having served in Episcopal and Roman Catholic Churches and Cathedrals across the country. In his most recent position, he served as the first Director of Music for the newest American Roman Catholic Cathedral, Christ Cathedral in Orange County, California. There he established the Cathedral choirs, Diocesan Choir and Diocesan Children’s Choir. He was also the host of “Music from the Tower,” a weekly radio program focusing on Sacred and Classical Music.

John’s choirs have toured the US, Europe and French Canada. He continues to conduct an annual Choral Festival in Italy over the Christmas season. He has served in leadership positions in the American Guild of Organists, the National Association of Pastoral Musicians and Pueri Cantores. The recipient of many awards and honors, most recently the Westminster Choir College Alumni Merit Award and the Paul Creston Award from St. Malachy, the Actor’s Chapel in New York City. He is a Knight of the Grand Cross in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem.

Dr. Romeri now lives in northern New Jersey near his two children and four grandchildren. Sadly, John’s wife Karen passed away in October 2023.

Lent begins *tomorrow* on Ash Wednesday:..

Grace Church in Newark invites you to begin your Lenten observation with us tomorrow on Ash Wednesday.

The 12:10 Said Mass offers quieter, contemplative worship, at an ideal time for professionals in search of rest during the work day. Join us at the 7:00 High Mass for organ music and Gregorian chant. Ashes will be imposed at both masses. The Rector will also be available after Morning Prayer and before Evening Prayer to lead a short prayer and impose ashes.

"Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return."
