It's time for Tuesday with Therese! St. Therese of Lisieux, the patron saint of TEC, wrote:

"I do not know, my Jesus, when my exile will come to an end. Many an evening yet may find me singing Your mercies here below, but sometime my last evening too will come..."

Therese considered her time on earth an "exile", away from her true home in heaven. Though she longed to be joined with her Jesus, she continued to praise him throughout her suffering and trials towards the end of her life. Jesus, fill our hearts with the hope and desire for you and you alone while we make our journey through earth to you!

In today's Gospel, Jesus offers the disciples a difficult challenge: to follow him, they must be willing to lose their lives, deny all the things of this world, and take up a cross. We are also given that same challenge. It is only in God that we can find the strength to accept this difficult call. Lord, strengthen us and give us the courage and fortitude to follow you!

Welcome again to Tuesday with Therese! The patron saint of the TEC movement, St. Therese of Lisieux, wrote:

"So many graces...! May I not sing with the Psalmist that 'the Lord is good, that His mercy endureth forever'? It seems to me that if everyone received such graces, no one would dread Him, but love Him with an unbounded love; for it is love rather than fear which leads us to avoid the smallest voluntary fault."

Therese, help us to open our hearts to God's graces, that we may be filled with "unbounded love" just as you were!

In today's Gospel, the disciples see Jesus walking on water and immediately feel fear. But Jesus reassures them that they need not be afraid. Lord, help us remember that in your presence, we have nothing to fear. We can rest and be at peace in you; nothing in this world can harm us when you are our refuge. Fill our hearts with your love so that we may face everything with courage.

In today's Gospel, Jesus takes what, by all appearances, seems to be a meager offering, and turns it into a blessing beyond anyone's wildest dreams. The story of the loaves and fish tell us that God can do incredible things with whatever we are able to give him, as long as what we give him is all we have. Lord, search our hearts and help us give you our all, so that you may use it for your glory!
