Spring Hill Presbyterian Church

Spring Hill Presbyterian Church We are a welcoming and vibrant congregation in the Presbyterian Church (USA). Our mission: "To Glorify God and to Make Disciples Who Witness and Serve."

07/12/2026

We invite you to join us for worship this morning, July 12, as we welcome Eugenia Gamble for the final week of her summer visit with us.

Drawing from Genesis 25:19–34 and Romans 8:1–11, Eugenia's sermon, "Birthright" explores the ways we sometimes trade lasting blessings for immediate satisfaction. Scripture's stories remind us that we all make decisions we later wish we could revisit.

The good news is that God's grace is larger than our mistakes. Even when we lose perspective, God continues to call us forward into new possibilities, offering forgiveness, wisdom, and new life.

Come as you are, and join us as we celebrate the God who meets us with grace and invites us to live with hope and purpose.

Our Support Singers

We are so very fortunate to have a dedicated and talented choir. We are also quite fortunate to have support singers to assist them in their work. These fine young people are primarily students or recent graduates of USA and are very dedicated in their attendance and participation. They are truly essential to our ongoing ability to lead worship and we are grateful to have them.

Occasionally I am asked about how they come to us and how they are supported financially. Those who are interested in singing audition for me to demonstrate their ability to read music and the "color" of their voice so that I can make certain that they will fit well into the ensemble. The longest serving singer has been with us for many years, first as a volunteer participant in the children and youth choirs and later as a paid support singer. The most recent came to us in May.

Each support singer receives a set fee for each rehearsal and each worship service in which they participate. The money for the six positions currently comes from designated funds and not from the church budget. As long as we don't use the funds for other purposes, the designated funds can maintain these positions for about a year, but they are not bottomless and need to be replenished on a regular basis.

Donations to the designated music funds are always welcome and ensure that we can continue our legacy of providing support for the choir. It is also possible to "adopt" a singer position by providing partial or complete monthly support. Of course, these funds would be in addition to pledges to the church budget. If you have an interest in directly funding a position at any level on a regular basis, please contact me. I would very much like to talk to you about how best to do that. [email protected]
The choir is off for the month of July but will return in August. In the meantime, we will have some wonderful soloists. I know you'll want to let them know how appreciated they are!

Over the past year, we have spent much time asking where we are meeting Jesus on the road and how God is calling us to grow as disciples. We have reflected, listened, worshiped, served, and dreamed together. We have begun imagining what God is calling this congregation to become for the sake of Mobile and the surrounding communities.

Being here has reminded me that we are not simply maintaining a church.

We are participating in God's healing of the world.

Every act of kindness.
Every shared meal.
Every prayer offered.
Every child nurtured in faith.
Every visitor welcomed.
Every hand extended in compassion.
These are leaves from the Tree of Life.
They become signs of God's healing in a world longing for hope.

That is what excites me about being Presbyterian in 2026. We are a people who believe that God is still speaking, still reforming the Church, and still calling ordinary people to extraordinary acts of grace.

My prayer is that Spring Hill Presbyterian Church will continue to embrace that calling with courage and humility. That we will trust the Spirit enough to follow where Christ leads. And that together we will become a community whose life bears witness to God's healing love.

For we are God's beloved children.

And we have been planted beside the river of life for the healing of the nations.

Grace and peace,
Rev. Brandon E. Miles

VBS NEEDS Volunteers Our Rain Forrest Falls VBS will be from 8:30-12:00 Monday-Thursday, July 20-23. We have station leaders for the activities but need a few more Crew Leaders to es**rt your designated group of children through their station rotation and stay with them during the activities. It’s a great way to get to know the kids and see the fun! Adults and older youth are welcome to be Crew Leaders. We also need volunteers in the pre-K. A snack leader is needed to coordinate the snack section each day. In addition, the Bible section leaders volunteers to be actors to help tell the bible stories. Please let Karen Dungan know if you are interested: (573) 310-9171, or [email protected]. The hours spent at VBS qualify for service hours for your school.

It was moving day for our church friend Allen Okine! Several youth group members, church members Linda and Lawrence, along with Allen's neighbor Matthew helped to collect furniture and deliver it to Allen's new apartment. They carted that sofa up three floors, too! Everyone worked hard. Thank you to everyone who donated furniture.

Summer Book Club Begins July 26!

Looking for a good conversation, great company, and some fellowship this summer? Join us for our new book club beginning Sunday July 26th here at the church 6:00p in the fellowship hall. We’ll gather in a casual, no-pressure setting to discuss Jesus and John Wayne by Kristin Kobes Du Mez.

This thought-provoking book explores how ideas about masculinity, culture, and power have shaped American evangelical Christianity over the past several decades. Whether you’ve read every chapter or are just curious about the conversation, all are welcome.

The author also happens to be the keynote speaker for the Presbyterian Women’s Conference at Montreat in August.

Questions comments or concerns feel free to email Maria Brutkiewicz [email protected] or Sara McGough at [email protected]

We invite you to join us for worship this morning, June 28, as we welcome Eugenia Gamble to the pulpit.

Drawing from Genesis 22:1–14, Eugenia's sermon, "When the Call Seems Too Much," explores one of Scripture's most challenging stories. At times, faith asks us to face uncertainty, loss, or responsibilities that feel beyond our capacity. Yet even in those moments, God remains present, providing grace, strength, and a way forward.

This service will offer space to reflect on the difficult calls we encounter in life and the faithfulness of God that sustains us through them.

Come as you are, and join us as we worship the God who walks beside us, especially when the road ahead seems more than we can bear.
