Baypines District

Baypines District A District of the Alabama-West Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church

05/10/2022

I love the famous line from the movie Field of Dreams..."Build it and they will come." I can just hear James Earl Jones's voice right now and I hope you can as well. We have a very unique opportunity right here in the Baypines District. The only difference is it hasn't even been built and they are continuing to come! The Promised Land Hispanic Ministry (formerly known as San Pedro) is in serious need of a multipurpose facility. They have 10 acres of beautiful property that is now debt free! They have over 100 members and counting with a high number in worship every Sunday. They need a building so they can continue to grow and achieve their goal to serve the Kingdom of God, and to make new disciples of Jesus Christ, for the transformation of the world.

What can you do to help? Right now, they need donations to cover the expenses of construction. Everyone knows construction costs are increasing at an overwhelming rate. They also need and covet your prayers in this endeavor. Once construction begins, we will need Mission teams to join in the effort of completing the building. This will include physical labor, food, materials, and many of the things you would find on a mission trip but rather then taking a flight, you will be able to ride to Summerdale and be part of this wonderful ministry opportunity.

The Baypines Board of Church Location and Building is coordinating this fundraising effort and we have a goal of $100,000. Just think if you were able to donate $30 you could pay for a door k**b. $50 for a sheet of plywood or even $75 for a 2x4. Every $1 counts when it comes to a project of this size.

Here is a link that you can simply click, select Promised Land from the drop down and donate! You will receive an email with a receipt for your tax deductible contribution.

I will be posting updates to this page and encourage you to share on your personal page if you are so led. We are so excited for this mission opportunity in our own backyard and can not wait to see what else God has in store for the members of the Promised Land Hispanic Ministry and others in Baldwin County who are touched by their presence and ministries.

Bless you for your prayers and consideration.

Dear Friends,
Today is my last day as the Baypines District Superintendent. Let me say, it has been my honor and privilege to serve alongside each of you. You truly are doing the work of the kingdom.

As a final challenge, I would like to invite you and your church to take a challenge and boldly support the The Promised Land Hispanic Ministry (formerly San Pedro) needs our help. Through your generous donations they were able to purchase a piece of land in Summerdale. They have almost retired this debt and are now looking to build a multi-purpose space for the ministry and need your help.

LA TIERRA PROMETIDA /THE PROMISED LAND A Ministry of the United Methodist Church is an international ministry of evangelism & discipleship, in the missional field of Baldwin County, Alabama. Their goal is to serve the Kingdom of God, and to make new disciples of Jesus Christ, for the transformation of the world.

Eventually they hope to add other buildings and ball fields to meet the needs of the community. This facility would go a long way to helping them continue their work as the church for the Hispanic community in Baldwin County.

They are planning with the Baypines Board of Church Locations and Buildings to build the building for $120,000, which will cover the costs of materials only. This would include retiring the present debt on the land and building materials.

I want to challenge you to get involved in one of the following ways.
a. Pray for the construction of the building and its future use.
b. Give financially as a church or as an individual. Mail checks payable to Baypines District to the District Office at 6333 Piccadilly Square Drive, Mobile, AL 36607 (Mark for The Promised Land Building)
c. Plan to send people to work or to provide for the workers as the construction starts in the fall.

Again, it has been a great honor to serve as your District Superintendent these last two years. It has been a challenging season but each of you and your churches have stepped up to the challenge. I thank you for being the Church and for showing in creative and imaginative ways how to love God and others through this season.

Grace --Rev. Jean Tippit
