Celebrating God and What He Has Done

📖Today's reading
Psalm 126:2
Isaiah 30:29
Jeremiah 30:19

Throughout the Old Testament we see God's insistence that the people of Israel take time to have celebrations. Passover, Pentecost and the Festival of Booths are significant seasons that God ordained for His people so that they would always remember the moments of victory that He led them through.

While today we commemorate Communion, Christmas and Easter, Christ-centered celebrations that remind us of our salvation, maybe there are other things that we could take more time to celebrate. What are some of the things that God has done for us in the recent past that are worth praising Him for and celebrating together?

As we conclude this 40-day experience of praying for our church, perhaps there are already some things that we can point to and say that "God is working". Let's take time to acknowledge and celebrate those things.

Let's also celebrate what we are believing God for in our future. The end of this 40 Days of Prayer is just the beginning of the journey we hope to be on as the Lord uses our church to bear fruit for His Kingdom.

🙏🏻Prayer
Lord Jesus, we're so honored and excited to be on this journey with You. You have promised that when we walk in obedience to You, on mission, that You will always be with us - to the very end!

Help us to be people who take time to notice and celebrate the moments in our lives, individually and corporately, that are marked by Your presence and Your provision.

Lead us by Your Spirit to be people who love what You love and celebrate what You celebrate. Amen.

Our Community

📖Today's reading
Luke 10:25-37
Luke 19:10

We live in an amazing community. Many of our people have deep roots in the community. Over time, things change. Sometimes, we tell stories of our past with fondness. Sometimes we lament the current state of things. We look at the people that we had in our lives years ago and look around now and see new people. We can be left with the question – “Who is my neighbor?”

What stays the same is our mission. Those around us needed Jesus years ago, and they need Jesus today. Some of those who need Jesus have never met Him. They need the hope that He provides. They need to find Him in a chaotic world. Others have met Jesus and know Him, but life is hard and they are in the midst of a season of trials. They need Jesus to help them and heal them.

We are on a mission for Jesus. He came to seek and save the lost. We are here to seek and save the lost. He was on a mission to heal broken hearts. He uses us to bring His love to our neighbors.

Our community needs Jesus. He has called us to be His agents in the community. What an honor we get!

🙏🏻Prayer
God, I pray for our community. I pray for our church to be a lighthouse for you amongst our neighbors. Lord, use us to bring those in our community closer to you. May we have a burden for you. May we make decisions in our lives so that we can get to know our neighbors and show them who you are.

God, may our church become a place of healing and rest for those in our community. May our little slice of the world become more like you because of our church. May we see those around us the way you do.
Amen.

The Students in Our Community

📖Today's reading
Proverbs 22:6
Deuteronomy 6:4-9
Judges 2:10-11

It has been said that our children are our future. While that is true that they will be the ones making decisions years after we are gone, they are also our present. They are a vital part of our current community and our church.

Statistically, someone is more likely to go to church in their 20s and 30s when someone outside the family pours into their lives and disciples them. We need to pray that we have people in our church who pour into the lives of our students. We need to pray that we can connect the generations to be one whole, complete body.

Every generation faces the same issues, just in different ways. There has always been anxiety, peer pressure, temptation, etc. Each generation experiences those uniquely. We need to pray for this generation and the pressures they face. As they go to school and interact with their peers, we pray that we can be a church that stands by them to show them who Jesus is and the hope that He provides them. May our students find a church home amongst us where they can feel safe to explore their faith and find a deeply rooted hope in Christ.

🙏🏻Prayer

God, we have such a special gift in the students in our community. Lord, we pray for them as they faced their world. We pray that we would be able to show them your love, and they would find their hope in You.

We also pray for the schools and the teachers that they would teach our students well and provide them a safe place where they can learn. We pray that you would be present in the lives of those who work with our students.

God, may we be able to help raise up the next generation that the world could be changed by them for you. Amen.

Our Homes

📖Today's reading
Joshua 24:15
Ephesians 5:21-6:9

Our homes are vital and important in our lives. It is in our homes that we raise our children. It is in our homes that we enjoy time with our spouses. It is in our homes that friends and family come to enjoy a meal, a conversation, play games, and do life. It is in our homes where we experience some of our deepest joys. It is also in our homes where we experience some of our deepest hurts and conflicts.

The enemy does not want us to have a good home. He does not want us to have unity between a husband and a wife, between parents and their children, between ourselves and our friends. He wants to sow discord and disunity. He wants to use our nature towards selfishness to draw division and conflict.

Our church can be an amazing place for our homes to find healing and strength. We can lift one another up, encourage one another, hold each other accountable, show each other how to choose God in our relationships. Our church can be the first line of defense against unhealthy relationships.

Let’s pray for our homes – that we would choose God’s path for us. And that we would seek Him out and His way. That the world would see how amazing God is because of our home life.

🙏🏻Prayer
God, you are the perfect Father. You provide for our needs. You correct us when we need it. You provide us safety in your wings. May we choose you in our homes.

God, we pray for our fathers and mothers, husbands and wives, sons and daughters, grandsons and granddaughters. We pray that they would turn their hearts to you. We pray that our homes would be shining lights of who you are in this world. Amen.

An Attitude of Gratitude

📖Today's reading
2 Corinthians 2:14
James 1:17

The culture we experience every day has never been more fixated on comparison. It can be difficult to avoid the trap of always longing for something more or different than we currently have. There's nothing inherently wrong with wanting more for our church. But it is important that as we pray for where we'd like the Lord to bless us that we check our motivation.

Do we desire more because we see what others have or what others can do? Is there a sense inside of us that we might be a little bit envious of the size or impact of other churches we know?

One of the best ways to overcome a spirit of envy or covetousness is to cultivate an attitude of gratitude. If we take time to do an inventory of the blessings we have (or have had in the past) and be truly grateful for the Lord's provision and blessing it can set our hearts straight.

Let's pray together that we can be a church that is keenly aware of all the ways we have been blessed by and cared for by God. Let's allow a spirit of thankfulness permeate the way we live and love in community with one another.

🙏🏻Prayer
Holy God, You are a good Father who gives good gifts. You know what we need and You never withhold Your grace and favor from those who have trusted in Your Name.

Bring to mind, for us, all the ways You have blessed this church family over the years. Help us to always be a community of people who are marked by a spirit of gratitude and thankfulness. Let us always live with thanksgiving in our hears. Amen.
