THE WORD FOR THE WEEK FROM THE WORD

I COR. 5:1

How far do we go? From the very beginning of Christianity, fellow believers have been persecuted. Some for their narrow beliefs that only through Jesus can people be saved and go to heaven. Some because they were concerned for biblical baptism. And some because of their godly lifestyle. I often think about those fanatical followers of Jesus being willing to die for their beliefs and how casual we have become to the point we are not willing to live out our beliefs. The word for the week from the Word is, “s*xual immorality among you.” I wonder what Paul would think if he lived today and saw 21st century American Christianity?

Are we not reading God’s Word? Do we not care what God says? Do we not think the Holy Bible is the Word of God? So, my question is: can we honestly call ourselves followers of Jesus Christ when we are living a life of sin or immorality? When will we take a stand for righteousness? How far can and will we slide? What does the future for Christianity look like? Too many questions; let’s stand on the Word of God.

THE WORD FOR THE WEEK FROM THE WORD

ROMANS 15:1
On the 160th day of this year, I decided to list 205 things I am thankful for. As I am reading through the New Testament this year, this week I was in Romans 15. So, I listed that I am thankful for the alphabet and especially for the letter “P.” See if you can count how many “P’s” I am using this week. The word for the week from the Word is “please.” Saying please is polite, but the point is in the form of a question. Is your life pleasing to your Patriarch? Are your loved ones proud of what you have become, and what you proclaim, and what you have done? Is God proud of you? Is the past in the past, or are you letting it dictate the present? How much time do you spend in prayer? Is your life praising God or profaning God? Will God praise you when you stand in judgment? Well done, good and faithful servant. Are you at peace with God, His church, and one another? Has the power of the Holy Spirit made His presence known in your life? And what is your purpose in life? The answer is to honor Jesus! All this was presented or implied in Romans 15.

THE WORD FOR THE WEEK FROM THE WORD

ROMANS 8:4

I don’t remember ever watching it, but there used to be a soap opera called Guiding Light. It actually ran for 72 years on the combination of radio and TV. What I sort of remember is the commercials advertising it. It seemed to indicate that there was some kind of light guiding us, relationships, greed, family, job, or pride. As I read through the NT, I agree there is a light that guides us. The devil gives us a light in the form of sinful, fleshly desires. Jesus gives us a guiding light from His Spirit, honoring Him. The word for the week from the Word is “do not walk according to the flesh.” Don’t follow the devil’s light.

We could all give a list of fleshly desires, but Paul gives us his version under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. He says, “s*xual immorality (why would he list that first? Think about it.), moral impurity, promiscuity (don’t all those say the same thing?) They had a s*x problem 2,000 years ago. Aren’t you glad we don’t have that problem today? Ha ha. And the list goes on. Paul says,“
"Those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God." What does that mean? We need to be serious about our walk with God.

THE WORD FOR THE WEEK FROM THE WORD

ROMANS 1:20

Last Sunday night, I said Jesus hates sin. If we are going to be like Him, we too must hate sin. When I come up with the word from the Word, I have tried to present a positive word. But as I read the first chapter of Romans, Paul confronts sin. It is hard to be positive when Paul confronts all the perversions and immorality. Words like “shameless acts, disgraceful passions, and corrupt minds, what can be said? The word for the week from the Word is “without excuse.”

We know better, but we continue to alter God’s Word, come up with new excuses, and revise our theology to meet our desires. In a world influenced by demonic passions, how then should we live? 1. Realize that sin has a price to pay. Verse 32 says they deserve to die. 2. The world has left God. We need to come back to God and acknowledge He is the creator and that He makes the rules. 3. Worship God and not His creation. 4. Honor God in all we do, every day, all day long.
