It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lucia Flores Rivera, who passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, August 23, 2026, at the age of 90.
Born on September 16, 1935, in McAllen, Texas, Lucia was the daughter of Encarnación and Vicenta Flores. From an early age, she learned the values of hard work, perseverance, faith, and devotion to family, qualities that remained at the heart of who she was throughout her life.
On February 28, 1954, Lucia married the love of her life, Arturo Rivera. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around faith, family, hard work, and love, sharing more than 72 years of marriage.
Lucia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was her greatest joy, and she dedicated her life to caring for those she loved. She will always be remembered for her strength, honesty, sense of humor, and wonderful cooking, especially her homemade flour tortillas that brought family, friends, and even neighbors together around her table.
In 1976, Lucia and Arturo returned to McAllen and became members of El Divino Redentor Methodist Church, where they remained devoted members for more than 50 years. Lucia loved singing in the choir and was blessed with a beautiful voice, often sharing her gift through solos during the Christmas season. Her faith remained an important part of her life.
Lucia shared a special lifelong bond with her sisters, Elvira and Esperanza, and was deeply proud of the family she and her husband built together. She was the loving mother of Arturo Rivera Jr., Amelia Rivera, Richard G. Rivera, and Noe Rivera. Her strength, sacrifices, faith, humor, and unconditional love will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those whose lives she touched.
While our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that Lucia is now resting peacefully in the arms of Jesus.
We loved you then. We love you now. And we will love you always.
