Peace UCC, Manitowoc

Peace UCC, Manitowoc Peace UCC is a merger of First Reformed UCC (1868) and St John's UCC (1891)in 2019. Today we are active in transforming Manitowoc into God's beloved community.

St John's/First Reformed United Church of Christ is a historic congregation serving the Manitowoc community since 1868. Today we are a member of Manitowoc Cooperative Ministry and served by co-pastors The Rev Judine A Duerwaechter and The Rev Dr Matthew L Sauer. Our mission states that “we covenant to share, serve, and live the Gospel as we incorporate the strengths of each congregation in service to the Manitowoc community.”

Friends,

Christmas morning comes softly. Light slips in around the edges of the day, and the world feels hushed, as if it knows something holy has happened. We remember that God did not arrive with noise or force, but with a child, born into the ordinary, wrapped in love small enough to hold and strong enough to change everything.

If joy fills your home this morning, may it widen your heart. If weariness or longing sits beside you, may you know this day was made for you too. Christmas tells us that hope does not wait for perfect conditions. It is born in the midst of real life, right where we are.

This morning is not only about what happened long ago, but about what is still unfolding. Love has entered the world, and now it seeks a place to live. It moves through open hands, patient hearts, and courageous acts of care. It whispers that healing is possible, that kindness matters, that peace begins wherever we choose one another over fear.

Christ comes to dwell among us, to breathe our air, to share our wounds, to light the path ahead. In this birth, the holy becomes near, and the fragile becomes sacred. Nothing we carry is unseen. Nothing is beyond grace.

So let Christmas continue. Let love take root in our living. Let hope rise in our choosing. And may this morning send us into the day as bearers of light for a world still learning how to believe.

Merry Christmas, friends. Peace to you, and to all.
Pastor Matt
