It’s fun to reply…

Spiritual directors, senior pastors, vestry members, worship leaders, priests, elders, church staff, artists, therapists, liturgists, seminary professors, youth pastors, key volunteers, parachurch and NGO staff, authors, bishops, poets, small group leaders…. if you serve your Christian community in any way, you are more than welcome to this and every retreat.

Or maybe you’re burned out on church and trying to recover from religious over-serving. You’re welcome too. Really. Just come and rest, connect, and dream it all up again.

You’re not alone. You’re not crazy. Let’s get swept into the way of Jesus together.

Sunday is not the main event. Our lives are the main event. Rather than a classroom for knowledge or performance hall for a worship concert, how can our Sunday gatherings become a holy gymnasium for spiritual formation? May it be so!

As luck would have it, on the exact day we opened registration for the Raleigh One Day retreat, Emily P. Freeman was in NYC to help her recently graduated film student prepare to move to Brooklyn. So they stopped by our apartment for happy hour, a walk through Fort Green park, and a fascinating conversation with Shauna Niequist.

To listen to the sound of the genuine that is within.

This is the gift we are given on retreat. And more importantly, this is the gift we are given in every moment. Right now as you read this post. While driving noisy kids to school. In that particularly frustrating meeting. On a walk around the block. In the midst of too many emails and not enough fresh air.

May we find the inexhaustible stillness just beneath the noise.

Please speak, O God, we are listening.

Registration is now open for the one day retreat in Raleigh on July 27th!

Let’s explore practices, conversations, prayers, and ideas that open us to the new life trying to get born in our hearts, in our church communities, and in our world.

We’ll worship at the intersection of multiple traditions…learning from the brilliance and particularities of the wider Christian family.

We’ll be given plenty of holy space—both for silent reflection and for spiritual conversation—to notice the Spirit’s movement in and among us.

Author and spiritual director Emily P. Freeman will guide us into the freedom offered through two crucial questions: (1) What am I holding on to? (2) What has a hold on me? Through the biblical story of Jesus turning water to wine, Emily and the PP&G team will help us discern the next right step(s) of letting go and holding tight. Releasing and receiving. What might God want to bring to life in and through you? And how can you participate in that flow of Grace?

At the end of the retreat, we’ll gather around the Eucharist table and receive the broken and living Bread we need for life and ministry. Friends, we really hope you’ll join us.

In two weeks, registration opens for our next gathering! A one day retreat with Emily P. Freeman (and the PP&G team) in Raleigh, NC.

Monday, July 27th
9am—3pm

Church on Morgan will graciously open their doors to make space for a six hour experience of rest, connection, and re-imagination. We’ll worship at the intersection of multiple traditions, hold each others stories in grace and solidarity, learn new (and old) spiritual practices, and dream about what the way of Jesus can look like in these overwhelming days.

What is trying to get (re)born in you? In your church? In your neighborhood? How can we humbly join with that new life together?
