We had a great weekend in Jefferson, Ohio for our first ever Western Reserve show. We didn't have high hopes, being that this is our first crop of kids and we only had young animals to bring. The experience, professional feedback and networking we gained there were our primary goals. We took our newly 2-year-old first-freshener LaMancha doe, Katie, and her single kid KT Elder (Brian's John Wayne line... lol), the "P" Alpine triplets, and 2 Alpine buck kids since it was an Alpine Specialty show. We were very happy with KT Elder and how she measured up to the intermediate and senior kids, being a junior kid. She brought a blue ribbon each day and great comments from both judges. Katie, who was definitely outclassed in the senior division, still managed mid-pack and great complements on her bone and udder attachments. I brought her along for Colton to have a showmanship doe, but he still wanted to tackle the task of showing kids, and they behaved very well. Phoebe (3,5), Pandora (3,4), and Persephone (4,5) all brought intermediate kid ribbons, despite being a little smaller because they were triplets. Our buck kids went (2,3) each flip-flopping with each judge. I'm grateful for the input from some really knowledgeable judges to help inform my breeding goals for next year! π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯4οΈβ£,4οΈβ£, 5οΈβ£,5οΈβ£.
For having over 300 of some of the nicest goats in the ring on Saturday, I'm ok with our baseline.
