✨ Some people walk into a room and become part of it. Others walk in and light it up. When PTO began discussing the idea of creating a Volunteer of the Month award, it quickly became clear that there was no better way to honor the legacy of one of our own and name it after her. Introducing for the very first time: ✨ The PTO ‘MBP’ of the Month … aka The Mistianna Barnes Prism Award. ✨ deservedly being given to the MBP herself, Mistianna Barnes!

A prism takes one beam of light and reveals all the beautiful colors within it. In much the same way, as one of Mistianna’s friends described her, she brought out the very best in the people around her. She reminded us that every person has something unique to give—and when we each bring our own gifts, our community becomes brighter.

Each month, the MBP will recognize someone who embodies the spirit Mistianna gave so freely: someone who serves with heart, brings joy, lifts others up, gives generously of their time, and makes our school and community a brighter place simply by being part of it.

Her name will now be spoken alongside the people who continue to show up, serve, encourage, and shine. Because Mistianna’s legacy isn’t just something we will remember. It is something we can continue.

Every volunteer who gives their time, parent who steps up, and every act of kindness that makes our community brighter. These volunteers are Mistianna’s light and legacy continuing to shine. Mistianna was never just one color, she was the whole prism.

And now, every time we celebrate someone who gives their time and heart to our school, a little more of her light will shine with them.

Mistianna believed in the power of one—the idea that one person can make a difference. And she was proof of that. Her vibrant personality, her creativity, her unmistakable style, and the way she could light up a room were impossible to miss. But the colors we saw on the outside were only a reflection of the incredible light she carried on the inside.

Thank you so much to all of the parents and teachers that took the time to attend open house tonight! In case you missed it, our PTO Board Members made their TV debut introduction. We’re so excited for what this year has in store and are excited to see our team grow. It takes a lot of time, talent, and treasure to make SMM all it can be. No amount of help is too big or too small and we’d love to have you on our team!! Reach out if you’re interested in hearing more 🤗

Not all logos are created equal, and our beloved Mustang is no different. When the SMM logo and brand were created a unique shade of red was chosen along with it. So, following suit with the social media trend, which red is REALLY our SMM red?

One more sleep!!! The Mustangs will be back in the building tomorrow and the PTO invites all parents of our tiniest Mustangs to join us tomorrow morning in the A/B room off the library. Bring your tears of sadness or joy and connect with other Mustang parents - we’re happy to host you!!
