Today we celebrate the Feast of St. Gemma Galgani, known to many as the “Daughter of the Passion.”

Through suffering, prayer, and deep trust in God, St. Gemma remained closely united to Jesus Crucified throughout her life.

The Passionists honor her because her spirituality reflected the heart of the Passionist charism: remembering the Passion of Christ as the greatest sign of God’s love.

May her witness continue to lead hearts closer to Christ and to the hope found beneath the Cross.

St. Gemma, pray for us.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Together with my brother bishops, I call on the leaders of the United States and Iran to negotiate a peace deal to end the conflict in the Middle East and prevent more loss of life. As we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ in this Easter season, “let us allow ourselves to be transformed by the peace of Christ,” as Pope Leo reminds us. I join Archbishop Paul Coakley, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, in inviting the faithful of the Archdiocese of Louisville to unite with Pope Leo XIV on Saturday, April 11, in special prayers on this day for peace. I invite you to spend time, individually or collectively, before the Blessed Sacrament before or after Mass. In addition, I encourage you also to pray in your homes and among your families and friends for peace in our world, for our military, and for the victims of this conflict.

- Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre of Louisville
