1st G Church Our Vision is “To GROW People in Christ that will GROW People for Christ”. The church has remained a stable witness for Christ since.

First Gethsemane Baptist Church was organized in 1910 as a result of a revival effort of a group of believers desiring a greater Christian witness in an area of Louisville, KY known at the time as “The Bottoms”. Originally located on Floyd Street, the church erected a new building and relocated to Algonquin Parkway in 1972.

Freedom Is More Than a Date
Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, a powerful reminder that freedom delayed is not freedom denied. We honor the courage, faith, and resilience of those who endured, persevered, and trusted God through generations of struggle.

As believers, we recognize that true freedom is found not only in historical emancipation but also in the liberating power of Jesus Christ. While we celebrate how far we have come, we remain committed to building a future marked by justice, unity, opportunity, and hope for all people.

May we never forget the sacrifices of those who came before us, and may we faithfully steward the legacy they entrusted to us.
