11:00 am Sunday, August 16
Psalm 133 “How good and pleasant it is when kindred dwell together in unity… It is like………”
The word “kindred” is expanded in the Psalm and by Jesus beyond the nuclear family. We are to love our neighbors. In Christ we become one with each other.
This Psalm celebrates the freedom set in motion through Aaron, anointed priest, to again worship God, despite exiles.
All of this is a miracle beyond our knowing and beyond our ways and days!
We will reflect on this in worship.
Holy Communion welcomes all!

Presiding Bishop Yehiel Curry has released a statement on the SCOTUS immigration decisions.

“We are a people shaped by the Word of God, called by the apostle Paul to “welcome one another … just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God” (Romans 15:7). As Lutherans, we confess a faith that compels us to welcome and protect the vulnerable, to honor the dignity God gives every human being, and to uphold laws and policies that provide refuge to those fleeing violence, persecution and profound hardship.”

When we know ourselves LOVED
there is little inclination to fear.
Jesus said,
“…take my yoke upon you, and learn from me…” Matt. 11:29

To take someone’s “yoke” is to be connected with them. In Christian worship, we are yoked with Christ.

—A word on the profound gift of Christian Worship
+Pastor Peg, LCM, LA

In the Small Catechism, Martin Luther sees worship as the Holy Spirit’s doing —gathering us to ‘taste and see’ God’s in-the-flesh glad mystery.

In the proclamation of the Word,
and in the breaking of the bread,
we are “yoked” with the crucified, risen Christ Jesus who comes to meet us as we are to show us how loved we are.

When we get even a taste of how loved we are, there is little inclination to fear who we are.

When we’re not defended, squelched, or distanced by fear,
we find ourselves free to have fun,
to be generous, kind, brave, loving,
and to be as happy as clams putting
the best construction on each other’s efforts – BECAUSE WHY NOT! 😊

When we heed the Spirit’s generous call to gather
we join a global community, blessed to ‘taste and see’ this mystery:
A wondrous table of welcome is endlessly re-set.
Yesterday is washed in grace. A new day dawns.
So come as you are! Yes, you! Them too!
(And don’t be too surprised
if a cute quiet canine
greets you from the back pew.)

"Come to me all who are weary and heavy laden,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me,
for I am gentle and lowly of heart,
and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
—Matthew 11:28-30
