🛠️ WORK DAY @ NATHANIEL MISSION! 🛠️

Fall is just around the corner, and we’re getting Nathaniel Mission ready for another season of serving our neighbors. We’d love for YOU to join us!

Our Fall Work Day is Saturday, September 19 at 9:00 AM, and there’s a job for just about everyone. No special skills required! Bring your family, a friend, your small group, or your team and spend a morning making a difference in our community. ❤️

Here are a few of the projects we’ll be tackling:

🌿 Trimming bushes & pulling weeds
🍂 Hauling trimmings
👕 Seasonally transitioning our Clothing Closet
🧼 Packing hygiene bags
🔨 And more!

Family-friendly + jobs for all skill levels!

At Nathaniel Mission, we believe serving our neighbors doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes it looks like pulling weeds, organizing clothes, or simply showing up and working alongside others. Every task helps us create a welcoming place where our neighbors can find hope, help, and community. 💙

**What if one afternoon a week could change the way a child sees themselves?**

Imagine being a child who walks into Esperanza Club after school. Maybe school was hard that day. Maybe reading feels frustrating. Maybe you just need someone to notice when you’ve had a good day—or sit with you when you haven’t.

Now imagine an adult who shows up every week.

Someone who learns your name.
Who listens to your stories.
Who celebrates when you finally read the page you’ve been working on.
Who reminds you that you are capable, loved, and worth showing up for.

**That’s what our Esperanza Club students need.**

We’re looking for **Esperanza Club Mentors** who can serve **one afternoon a week, Monday–Thursday, from 2:30–5:00 PM** as a small-group leader and trusted adult for our students.

We’re also looking for **Reading Volunteers** on **Monday or Tuesday from 3:50–4:50 PM** to help students build confidence and grow as readers.

You don’t have to be a teacher. You don’t have to have all the answers.

**You just have to show up.**

Because sometimes, changing a child’s life starts with something as simple as an adult who keeps showing up.

**Come invest in a small life. 💙**

**Sometimes, hope begins with a conversation.**

For years, Laura has been a familiar face at Nathaniel Mission. She has come through our doors for a meal, a change of clothes, and (perhaps most importantly) a conversation.

For weeks, Laura talked about knowing she needed to do something different. She knew she was struggling. She knew she couldn’t keep going the way she had been. But knowing you need a change and finding the courage to take that first step are two very different things.

So we listened.

We spent hours talking with her. We encouraged her. We reminded her that her story wasn’t over and that a different future was still possible.

Then, after one particularly long conversation, Laura disappeared for a couple of days.

We wondered about her.

When she came back, something had changed.

**Laura was ready.**

She was ready to seek treatment. Ready to take a step toward recovery. Ready to believe that maybe her life could look different.

We know one conversation doesn't fix addiction. One decision doesn't make the road ahead easy. But sometimes, a conversation can be the moment when someone finally sees a way forward.

At Nathaniel Mission, we have the privilege of walking alongside people like Laura- people who are struggling with addiction, experiencing homelessness, or moving from couch to couch, trying to find their next step.

We offer food and clothing, but we also offer something just as important: **a place where people are known, listened to, and reminded that they have not been forgotten.**

Laura found some clarity and hope at Nathaniel Mission. And today, we are praying for her as she takes her next steps.

**Would you pray with us?**
Pray for Laura. Pray for the many others who are struggling to break free from addiction. Pray that they will find the courage to ask for help, the resources they need to move forward, and people who will walk beside them along the way.

Because sometimes, **hope begins with a conversation.**

And sometimes, that conversation can change everything. ❤️

💙💚 What a great day at our Health Fair!

Yesterday, more than 50 people from our community joined us for Nathaniel Mission’s Annual Health Fair—and we are so grateful!

What makes us especially excited is that more than half of our guests received a vision screening or A1C screening, giving them an opportunity to learn more about their health and take an important step toward caring for themselves.

From free screenings and vaccines to health information, nutrition resources, and conversations with community health partners, the day was all about making health and wellness resources accessible to our neighbors.

A huge THANK YOU to the volunteers, health professionals, community partners, and everyone who helped make the day possible. Your time and expertise are helping our community take steps toward healthier lives. 💚

At Nathaniel Mission, we believe healthy communities begin with access, connection, and care. Yesterday was a beautiful example of that.

Men’s clothing is needed at Nathaniel Mission! 👕

Our Clothing Closet is seeing a growing need for men’s clothing, and we could use your help filling the shelves.

If you’re cleaning out your closet, please consider donating clean, gently used men’s clothing, especially:

👕 T-shirts & casual shirts
👖 Jeans, pants & shorts
👟 Shoes
🧦 Socks & new underwear

Your donation can help a neighbor have something appropriate to wear to work, a job interview, school, or simply feel confident and cared for in everyday life.

Have clothing to share? Bring it to Nathaniel Mission, 1109 Versailles Road, Suite 400, Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m.

And if you don't have clothing to donate, please share this post with someone who might!

Together, we can help our neighbors experience dignity, hope, and practical care. 💚

**Help us keep reaching. 💙**

Every afternoon at Esperanza Club, children walk through our doors looking for more than homework help. They find caring adults who listen, encourage, pray, and remind them that they are known and deeply loved by God.

This year, **30 children are counting on Esperanza Club**—and we need people like you to help us keep reaching them.

There are two simple ways you can get involved:

💙 **GIVE** A gift of **$600 provides a full-year scholarship for one child**, or **$50/month** helps provide a monthly scholarship. Give at nathanielmission.com/donate

🤝 **VOLUNTEER** Give just one afternoon a week, **Monday–Thursday, 2:30–5:00 p.m.** Help with homework and reading, participate in activities, and most importantly, build a relationship with a child. Email Kelly at [email protected]

You don't have to do everything. **Just choose one way to show up.**

Because sometimes changing a child's life begins with simply being there.

**Will you help us keep reaching?**

James came to Nathaniel Mission needing help getting his birth certificate.

It wasn’t that he couldn’t afford the fee. James simply needed someone to help him navigate a process that was difficult for him to read and complete on his own.

Stephanie (our Case Manager) sat beside him, helped complete the application, explained how to purchase and use the money order, and sent him home with an addressed, stamped envelope ready to mail.

Last week, James returned to the office with a handwritten card for Stephanie. He had pushed himself to write a single sentence:

**“Thank you for your hope.”**

Maybe James meant *help.* But we think *hope* may have been the truest word.

Because sometimes what someone needs most isn’t just a form completed or a problem solved. It’s someone willing to sit beside them, offer dignity and guidance, and remind them that they aren’t alone.

**Your support makes moments like this possible.** Thank you for helping Nathaniel Mission meet our neighbors exactly where they are—with practical help, compassion, dignity, and hope.

💙Because Someone Kept Reaching 💙

For two years, Cynthia has been part of Esperanza Club.

Along the way, she has experienced challenges no child should have to carry. There have been plenty of reasons for her to focus on what feels unfair or difficult. But week after week, caring adults kept showing up—encouraging her, praying with her, listening to her, and reminding her that she is deeply loved by God.

This summer, something beautiful happened.

After a Bible lesson on Psalm 139, we gave our campers a few quiet moments to reflect on what God might be saying to them. Cynthia picked up a paintbrush and created a picture of a girl reaching.

When she finished, she told us:

**“God will forever reach out to you… so I reached back.”**

On the back of her painting, she wrote the verse our group had been memorizing:

*“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”*
— Psalm 139:14

This is why Esperanza Club matters.

It’s about reading support and homework help. It’s about meals, enrichment, friendships, and caring adults. But most of all, it’s about creating a place where children know they are seen, valued, and loved—and where they can discover the hope God has for their lives.

**Thirty children are counting on Esperanza Club this school year.**

Would you help us keep reaching?

A **$600 gift sponsors one child for the entire school year**, or you can give **$50 a month** to provide a scholarship.

Your gift helps us keep showing up, keep praying, keep encouraging, and keep reaching—one child at a time.

**Because someone kept reaching for Cynthia. And we want to keep reaching for the next child.**

💙 Give today and help a child know they are loved, valued, and never forgotten.
