Sanctuary & on Zoom
Zoom Update: The link to join service online has recently changed. Use this ZoomZ link for online service on Sunday:
https://zoom.us/j/98147727735

We invite you to join us on Sunday for "Among the Wildflowers", our all-ages Flower Communion service, aka Flower Ceremony/Celebration, led by the Rev. Dr. Brian Chenowith. Bring a flower if you're able (but don't worry if you can't - there are always plenty of flowers). This unique Unitarian Universalist holiday is rooted in the history of UUism in Europe during World War II. While it is a bittersweet story, it is also a reminder of just how important a free faith is in this world of ours.

Children and Youth RE: All ages are encouraged to join us in service as we celebrate Flower Communion this week. There will be plenty for kids to do (as a matter of fact, we need their help). This is one of our favorite parts of Spring, so please plan on participating in our intergenerational service!

Youth Choir: We are singing this week at Flower Communion! Please arrive at 10am so that we may practice with the choir. The very short part of a song we learned last week will be a lovely addition to the service. Wear something colorful and bring a flower if you're able.

Childcare on Sundays: Childcare is available in the Shoots & Sprouts nursery for ages 4 and under. Please ask one of our greeters for more info.

EVENTS & OPPORTUNITIES: Sign up for the Weekly eNews at the link on our website (uucl.org) for a LOT of additional information. You'll find many more opportunities for connection in the eNews, along with links to sign up and/or learn more.

Checks can be made out to UUCL with "June GATP" in the memo line and mailed to the church; text UUCLGATP to 859-659-6363; or use the Donate link on the church website.
- Sunday Fellowship Hour: All are invited to join us for fellowship before and after the service in the Fellowship Hall. Please label any snacks you bring to share with your name and ingredients. Our kitchen is a nut-free facility.
- Farewell Reception for Linda Richardson and Jerry Morrison: Sunday, June 7, following the service. Don't miss the opportunity to say goodbye to these longtime UUCL members who are leaving Kentucky soon.

Activities start at noon with a Simple Living Potluck Lunch. Come feel welcomed, get encouraged, and stay connected. Contact Marie Conger, [email protected].
- Summer Solstice Celebration: Saturday, June 20 at 6pm. The UUCL Earth Centered Pagan Group will be hosting a Litha/Summer Solstice Celebration that starts with sharing a potluck supper in the Fellowship Hall, followed by a fire circle ritual (weather permitting). Everyone is welcome! If you would like to join us, please use our sign up form so we will know how many to plan for.
- Peace Camp 2026: June 22 - 26. For grades 2-6. Register now: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfdsOubagh00FdYIh_Hg_-gStGynPMuXYc1YjkeJ92nnLR1qA/viewform
- UUCL Mini-Pantry: Sundays, before/after the service in the Fellowship Hall. Bring what you can, take what you need, no questions asked.
- Welcome Center Art: Works from artist Deb Schweitzer are currently on display in the Welcome Center through July.
Artist Statement: "Photography, the art and science of drawing light, is to me a magical act of freezing time. It is a method of collecting beautiful things, facing painful truths and communicating complicated ideas. Mostly, it is a study in the diversity of vision. Simply put, I love to take pictures."

UUCL is proud to offer art exhibition opportunities for local artists in the Lexington community as well as for UUCL Member-Artists. Artists interested in exhibiting in the Welcome Center are encouraged to contact Judy Hower, [email protected].

PARKING: We have many visitors on Sundays, so here's a reminder for our frequent attendees: We have permission to use the "La Petite Academy" parking lot at 1450 Higbee Mill. There are also other side streets around UUCL that you can park on. If you know of UUCL members near where you live, see if you can catch a ride with them.

If Sunday services and events need to be adjusted or cancelled due to weather conditions, updates will be posted by Saturday evening at the latest. You'll find the notice on WYKT, Facebook and Instagram and the church website, uucl.org.

06/05/2026

On June 4th, the US Department of Defense removed Unitarian Universalism and 180 other religions from its official list of affiliated religions. This means that Unitarian Universalists in uniform - as well as Humanists, Pagans, and members of so many other faiths - will no longer be able to receive spiritual services tailored to their needs.

https://www.military.com/dod-officially-drops-180-faiths-from-militarys-recognized-religion-list

We send our unwavering support for Unitarian Universalists (UU) in uniform and our UU military chaplains. We recently learned the Department of Defense (DOD) has removed 180 separate religious affiliations from the US military’s list of religious affiliation codes. This eliminates the code for Unitarian Universalists, as well as Humanists, Atheists and Pagan traditions, and many others. Along with dozens of other religious traditions, UUs will be categorized broadly under “Other” in military’s religious affiliation codes.

Please note this decision does not directly impact the status of our UU military chaplains, who are authorized through a separate faith-based endorsement process with the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA). What it does mean is that Unitarian Universalist service members will not be able to select their specific religious identity in their personnel records. This may make it more difficult for our uniformed UUs to access the spiritual care that they need.

At this time, we are diligently working with our UUA counsel and partners in a variety of faith traditions to craft a strategic response that faithfully represents our values and demonstrates clear support for our UU service members and their families, as well as all those who are impacted by this DOD policy.

We will share more information when it is available. But today, we declare that no government action can erase our faith nor lessen the powerful and necessary grounding it provides for those who serve.

She recently stepped down from her role as Spiritual Director at Ahava Center here in Lexington where she served for the past 6 years. Rainbow worked at the Bodhi Spiritual Center in Chicago as the founding Director of the Youth and Family Ministry and then Director of Education and Community Engagement.

Children's Religious Exploration (RE):
Carrying on with our Curiosity theme this month, we will explore the idea of a Pride Festival. With our Lexington Pride Festival on May 30, and June being Pride month, it seems like a timely topic. When did it start? Why have a Pride holiday? What do all the flags mean? What does it mean for me? These will be a few of the questions we will explore this coming Sunday!

Youth RE: This week, youth will make an "affirmation station" for the congregation to enjoy. This will be a small decorated corner where people can pick up small affirmations created by the youth. These will be little "pick me ups" for people to take with them when they need to know they are enough, smart, worthy, appreciated etc... We hope your creative and kind kids can join us!

Youth Choir: We resume on Sunday, May 31 at 10:30am in the Allen House. We will delve into a new song that we will perform for Flower Communion on June 7. It's not too late to join, and we would love to see you there!

Childcare on Sundays: Childcare is available in the Shoots & Sprouts nursery for ages 4 and under. Please ask one of our greeters for more info.

We invite you to join us for our Sunday service "Once Again with the Love Thing" led by the Rev. Dr. Brian Chenowith.

This Sunday we have with us the official chalice of the Unitarian Universalist Association. In the lead up to our annual General Assembly, the chalice of the Unitarian Universalist Association is traveling around local congregations. This chalice will look very similar to our own because they were both designed and created by the same artist, Mordecai Roth, who made several of these for Unitarian Universalist congregations across the world.

Children's Religious Exploration (RE): We have been talking about creating a raised bed vegetable garden at UUCL for a long time, and on this Sunday we will begin. The young people who wish participate will help put together raised beds and clear the space for the garden to come. Any child not wanting to participate can have a free day to play on the playground!

Youth RE: Michele is out of town so the children's group and youth group will be combined to start on a Summer of Service Project! This is a great opportunity for the youth to lead and be mentors to the younger kiddos.

Youth Choir: We will pick back up on Sunday, May 31 at 10:30am in the Allen House. It's not too late to join, and we hope to see you there!

Childcare on Sundays: Childcare is available in the Shoots & Sprouts nursery for ages 4 and under. Please ask one of our greeters for more info.

Intro to UUism: Sunday, May 24, 12:30-2pm.
We invite you to join our next Intro to UUism class. Light snacks will be available. If you plan on attending please email Chris Nason, [email protected]. We look forward to welcoming you.

UUCL Is Seeking an Operations Manager:
We are looking for a 3/4 time Operations Manager to oversee, engage, and plan for the sustainability and smooth running of our historic buildings and seven acres. The right candidate can work with diverse opinions, volunteers, renters, and staff. You will work closely with all of those groups, while ensuring we achieve the policy and operations goals set by the Board and Minister.
