A. Background of Elijah
1. Elijah lived in Tishbe, Gilead (Reuben, Gad, Manasseh)1Ki 17:1
2. Elijah means God is Yahweh or Jehovah 1 Ki. 17:1
3. Family unknown, but parents devoted to Yahweh 1 Ki. 17:1
4. Head of Samuel’s prophetic schools 1 Sam. 19:20; 2 Ki. 2:3-7
a) The SOP lived together at different times 2 Ki. 6:1-7
b) The SOP discerned their anointed leader 2 Ki. 2:15-22
5. Jezebel cared for the prophets of Baal and Asherah 1 Ki. 18:19
6. Jezebel killed some of God’s prophets 1 Ki. 18:4,13; 19:10
a) Elijah thought he was the only prophet left 1 Ki. 19:10
