A. Overview of Covenant
1. Definition: A formal, solemn binding agreement between parties. Jos. 7:11; 9:17-20; 1 Sam. 23:18
2. The Bible has a theme of covenants
3. God functions by covenant principles
a) God’s first covenant was with Adam Hos. 6:6-8
b) Promises are a foundation of covenant 2 Cor. 1:20; Heb. 8:6
4. Contract versus Covenant Gen. 15:7-18; Ex. 24:6-8; Ps 25:14
5. God established some human covenants Gen. 2:18; Matt. 19:3-12

Part 5: Impact of Sin

A. Achan’s Actions
1. Temptation occurred before the fall Gen. 3:1-6
2. God does not tempt us Jam. 1:13
3. Our desire is the cradle for temptation Jam. 1:14
4. Satan is the tempter. He entices us Matt. 4:1-11; 1 Thess. 3:5
5. Temptation common to us as humans 1 Cor. 10:13

C. Attitude\Response to Sin

A. Israel’s Wilderness Experience
1. Ten spies got what they confessed Num. 14:28-38
2. Joshua and Caleb got what they confessed Num. 14:30
3. Life and death are in the power of the tongue Pro. 18:21
4. Confession of faith can determine our destiny Num. 14:28-38
5. God hears and may respond to our confession Num. 14:28-38
6. The choice: blessing or curse Dt. 11:26-29

B. Two Curses of Jericho
1. No curse without a cause Pro. 26:2

3. Jericho was a wicked city Dt. 9:1-6
a) A center for Canaanite idolatry, culture,

4. Cherem = accursed, devoted for destruction; arar = cursed
