Jesus is the true and better Gideon.

Gideon was double minded. Jesus never was. He obeyed everything the Father set before Him, becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. He never once looked to the Father and asked for one more sign or one more bit of assurance. He simply obeyed.

Where Gideon was fearful, Jesus is courageous.
Where Gideon needed one more assurance, Jesus trusted firmly in the Word of God.
Where Gideon was tempted toward pride and self exaltation, Jesus emptied Himself.
Where Gideon sought his own glory, Jesus sought the glory of the Father.
Where Gideon cared first for himself and his family, Jesus cared for His Father and His bride.
Where Gideon feared for his own life, Jesus laid His life down for the good of those He loves.

Jesus has conquered every stronghold the enemy has built. He tears down the high places, both in the world and in our hearts, and He is building His church across the whole earth by the power of His blood.

He fears nothing. He needs nothing. And He withholds nothing from His people.

Jesus is the true and rightful King.

Tomorrow is going to be a good one.

We’re continuing our journey through Judges in the Broken Saviors series, and we get to celebrate baptisms in the 9:30 service. There are few things better than watching someone go public with their faith in front of this church family.

Whether you’ve been here for years or you’ve never walked through our doors, there’s a seat for you.

Service Times: 9:30am and 11:00am

Come worship with us.

God told Gideon his army was too big.

Not too small. Too big. Thirty-two thousand men became three hundred, and the reason is stated plainly in Judges 7:2. If Israel won with a full army, they would turn around and say “my own hand has saved me.”

So God made the math impossible, and the victory undeniable.

That same principle runs straight through the Gospel. God planned salvation from eternity past. He sent His Son to live and die in our place. He raised Him from the dead. He sent the Holy Spirit to awaken hearts that were spiritually dead.

Look at that list and ask where our contribution fits. The only thing we add to our salvation is the need for it, because we are the ones who forsake Him and run from Him. Jesus does everything else. That is why He can say from the cross, “It is finished.”

Which changes how we carry whatever good God does through us. When good flows through your life, do not point to yourself. We are an arrow, not a dot. Transfer the glory to Him.

You and I have nothing to boast about in our salvation. We have one great boast: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, You have saved us.

It is easy to read the fleece story and come away thinking, wow, Gideon was really seeking the Lord. What a devoted guy.

Look again.

The remarkable thing in that passage is not Gideon’s faith. It is God’s patience. He would have been entirely just to respond to Gideon’s hesitation with wrath. That would have been good and right. Instead He refrains.

He takes one of His children by the hand, and like a loving parent, He leads him toward trust. Not with a lecture. Not with a rebuke. Step by step, with kindness.

How many times can we look back on our own lives and see the same thing?

Lord, I did not fully trust You there. And Your grace was so evident. You held my hand like a parent holds a child’s hand, and You walked me through it, even while I was saying I do not think I can trust You with this. I do not think I can go there. I do not think I can hand this over.

And He graciously, kindly does it anyway.

That is the point of this whole series. Gideon is yet another broken savior. God is the perfect Savior.

Think about what our culture would have told Gideon.

Just believe in yourself. Speak it into existence. Manifest the victory over the Midianites and it will happen. You are enough.

God gave him none of that.

The reassurance God offers Gideon is not New Age self-help talk dressed up in religious language. It is not a pep talk about untapped potential. It is something far better and far sturdier.

The message is simply this: I will be with you. In your hurt. In your difficulty. In your weakness. I am with you.

And that is what makes Gideon a mighty man of valor.

Notice the difference. Self-help puts the weight back on you. It tells you the answer is somewhere inside, and if the outcome does not come, the failure must be yours too. What God offers is the opposite. He does not point Gideon to Gideon. He points Gideon to Himself.

That matters for us, because most of us are not standing in a season where we feel particularly mighty. We are in the hurt, the difficulty, the weakness. And the promise is not that we will find enough strength in ourselves if we dig deep enough.

The promise is that He is with us. That is what changes everything.

Mark your calendar: our Family Meeting is this Sunday, October 18.

Twice a year we set aside time after both services to give you a clear picture of how Redemption Church is doing. This is not a formality. You are part of this church family, and we want you to know what is happening in it.

Here is what we will cover:

Where we stand financially
What is coming up on the calendar
How you can take a next step

We will also open the floor for questions, so bring them.

The meeting happens right after both the 9:30 and 11:00 services, and we aim to keep it under thirty minutes. There is no registration. Just stay in your seat when the service ends.

For parents with kids in Redemption Kids: after the 9:30 service, come straight to the meeting and pick up your kids when it is over, since Kids continues through the second service. After the 11:00 service, we will run a ten minute countdown so you have time to grab your kids and bring them back in.

We would love to have the whole family in the room. See you Sunday.

Is God's Word enough?

That's a harder question than it sounds. Not whether we believe the Bible is true, but whether His Word is enough to actually move us into faithful action and obedience. That is the essence of faith.

Here is what encourages me. The Bible never asks us to just dive in and pray that God is real. It always points us back to His Word, to how He has come through for His people, and to how He has delivered on every single promise. His track record is clear and it is available to anyone willing to read it.

Which leads to the uncomfortable part. How can we have confidence in the promises of God if we do not know what those promises are? And how can we know His Word if we never actually read it? You cannot trust what you do not know.

So we do not need to wait for another sign, another reason, or another circumstance to start trusting God. He has already given us everything we need.

God has spoken once and for all in His Son. Jesus finished His work on the cross, and because of that, we can rest assured that He is with us today.

Stop waiting. Start reading. Start trusting.

Every judge in the book of Judges points to someone greater than himself.

That's the pattern you start to see once you're a few chapters in. These deliverers win real victories over real enemies. But the wins never last, and the people never change. They defeated the enemies, but they never changed Israel's heart.

Military victory is not the same as spiritual transformation. Deliverance is not the same as salvation.

That's exactly why the book leaves you wanting. It's meant to.

Jesus does not simply defeat our enemies. He defeats sin itself. He does not simply rescue us from oppression. He rescues us from ourselves, which is the enemy no judge could ever touch.

And here is the nature of that rescue. It is not a story about how impressive we became for God, or how we finally earned His salvation. It is about the mercy of a God who came to save us. There is nothing you could have done to earn it.

So your hope can rest in the crucified and risen Jesus. Not in your performance. Not in your strength. Not in temporary solutions that work for a season and then fail.

But in the One who conquered death itself.

They have been in a group since Redemption Groups launched. And even they were nervous at the start.

What if I say the wrong thing. What if somebody disagrees with me. What if I get judged for where I actually am.

It did not take long to realize the room was safe. What it did take was showing up. Years and several groups later, the fear they walked in with looks pretty small next to what it has done for their faith.

There is a specific feeling you get driving home from a good group night. Glad you went. Glad you had that time. Glad those people know you.

That is what is on the table here, and it is so worth it.

Your group is waiting this semester. Look through all of them at redemptionlakeland.com/groups

Ehud had every reason to take credit.

He made the sword. He crafted the plan. He got past the palace guards. He killed Eglon and got out of the palace undetected. If anyone in the story had earned a moment of self-promotion, it was him.

Instead, when he speaks, he names the Lord as the reason for Israel's deliverance. Not his craftsmanship. Not his courage. Not his cleverness.

And notice what giving God the glory does not do. It does not make their action unnecessary. Israel still has to march out and fight the Moabite forces. They still have to step forward and participate in the victory.

Giving God the glory simply tells them whose gift that victory is going to be.

That's the tension a lot of us live in. We work hard, we plan, we show up, we give our best. And at the end of it, we name the Lord. Not because our effort didn't matter, but because it was never the reason it worked.
