Tonight Rick talked about Matthew 5:9-11, the last Beatitudes. The first one being being, blessed are the peacemakers. Jesus uses peacemakers that can relate to both sides to bring peace to whatever the conflict is. The second one being blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness. This will cost you something no matter what but the way of the cross is a blessing for us. To follow Jesus and live a meaningful life in history means we have to expect and except that our life will be uncomfortable. We can’t wait to see everyone again next week to continue talking about the Sermon on the Mount. Have a great week everyone.

Here’s what you missed last night if you couldn’t make it to Wesley. We looked back at the next three steps in the beatitudes: hunger and thirst for righteousness, merciful, and pure in heart. Hungering after righteousness means that we need to have a longing to manifest God’s saving righteousness in our lives. This can look like accepting out positional righteousness as God see Jesus’ righteousness on us and asking the Holy Spirit to give us the strength to pursue innocent living in terms of our relationship with other. As we purse righteousness, many times we and those around will fail leading us to the next step Mercy. Mercy is not giving someone what they do deserve. This can be closely connected with forgiveness. It is important that we are aware that forgiveness is wiping away a debt after someone has hurt us. Forgiveness does not necessarily mean opening yourself to trust someone who is not trustworthy. Our last step, pure in heart, can often be confused with being perfect. However, as it is stated in Titus, pure in heart means to put Christ first in our thought and worship him and to treat other with honestly and genuineness. We look forward to finishing up the beatitudes next week and can’t wait to see everyone!

If you missed out on Wesley tonight don’t sweat it. The amazing Elisa Clarke started our new series on The Sermon on the Mount and how influential it is. Tonight we were in Matthew 5:3-5. Elisa talked about how to follow what Jesus is saying about blessed are the poor in spirit, we need to be in a place to view our unworthiness. She also discussed blessed are those who mourn. Three parts of mourning: mourning over a love one, mourning over a hurt world, and lastly mourning of a heart that has sin. Going into the last part saying do not dwell over your sin but understand what you did and repent. The last part of the sermon we discussed was blessed are the meek. Elisa pointed out this is not weakness but power under control. To have meekness you are willing to defend people but also forgive others. Elisa did a great job tonight speaking and we can’t wait to hear more about the Sermon on the Mount next week. We can’t wait to see everyone next week and hope y’all have a great week.

If you missed out on tonight’s message, Rick used the analogy that an arrow shaft tied to a stick over time will slowly straighten out to what it is tied to. This is just like our faith in Christ, when we surround ourselves in a community, encouraging us in our faith and are accepted for who we are, we start to conform into what God wants us to be like. He also touched on what the focus is for a small group or small community. The focus is to understand that God is bigger than what you think or know and bigger than what we have experienced. He used a ring you wear on your finger as an example. The inside of the ring fits all the things you think/ know and everything outside of the center of that ring is what God truly is. The whole universe. Thank you to everyone who joined Wesley tonight. We can’t wait to see everyone again next week. If you want to prepare yourself for next week take time to read over 1 Corinthians 12:12-27 and ask yourself these two questions: What part of the body would I be? What unique characteristics do I bring to our community? Hope everyone has a great week!

Tonight at Wesley we will be reading Hebrews 10:23-25. To prepare yourself for tonight, read over these verses sometime today and reflect over this question: What is God revealing to me about my own journey through these words? We can’t wait to see everyone tonight and discuss these verses and question. Zoom info is in our bio and on our story.
