Last night, 35 young professionals gathered for Father Baker on Tap to connect, learn, and discover the incredible legacy of Venerable Nelson Baker and the lasting impact of OLV Organizations throughout Western New York.

Hosted by Phil and Katie Scaffidi and Luke Earl, the evening featured insights from Fr. David LiPuma, Cindy Lee, and Paul Zablocki. They shared how Father Baker’s mission of faith, compassion, and service continues to change lives.

Guests then experienced a special tour of OLV National Shrine & Basilica with Fr. David. From meaningful conversations to new connections, it was a wonderful reminder that Father Baker’s mission is not just a part of our history ... it’s a legacy the next generation can carry forward!

Father Baker built his legacy one act of caring at a time. And, decades later, that mission continues thanks to the hundreds of OLV associates who do the work necessary to keep the OLV organizations rolling along. Earlier this month, some of those dedicated individuals took center stage at the annual Employee Milestone Celebration.

More than 100 associates and guests from OLV Charities, OLV National Shrine & Basilica and OLV Human Services gathered at The Show at Shea’s Seneca in South Buffalo. It was an evening of good food, familiar faces and stories shared across departments, honoring colleagues reaching milestone anniversaries and thanking retirees for their years of faithful service.

This year’s OLVC honorees that were in attendance included retiree Patti Sawyer, Kim Kutera (10 years of service), Mike Allaire and Lee Dzury (5 years). A special thanks goes to OLVC’s Mary Braun and Becky Juroe, whose planning and creativity made the event possible!

OLV National Shrine & Basilica was honored to receive the 2026 Daniel B. Niederlander Award, presented Thursday, October 15, during the annual Red Jacket Awards Ceremony at The Buffalo History Museum !

This prestigious recognition celebrates the lasting impact of the Basilica on Western New York through its rich history, cultural significance, and enduring mission of faith and service.

This award is another meaningful milestone following OLV's Centennial Celebration, which commemorated 100 years since the dedication of our beloved Basilica. We are grateful to everyone who has helped make this legacy possible and for those who continue to make OLV a special place.

OLV's creative team brought home a Gold Excalibur Award from the PRSA Buffalo Niagara. The recognition came for “Father Baker: A Friend to All,” the young-readers biography of Venerable Nelson Baker published earlier this year.

The book took top honors in the Special Publications category. Tom Lucia and Juliana Conidi were on hand at the ceremony to accept the award on behalf of the team.

The annual Excalibur Awards dinner showcases the best public relations, marketing, and communications work in Western New York. This year’s win marks the sixth consecutive year the OLV creative team has earned at least one Gold Excalibur.
