Wonderful things happen when we express ourselves through prayer.

Prayer is not a last resort.

It is the first place we go when we need to be heard, when we need to listen, and when we need God to move.

It is where we stop performing and start being honest. It is where we lay down what we cannot carry and pick up the peace only He can give.

When we express ourselves through prayer our gratitude, our grief, our questions, our hope heaven leans in.

Hearts soften. Direction comes. Provision shows up. Community forms. Wonderful things happen, not because we prayed perfectly, but because we prayed.

This Sunday we gather at Vestal UMC to do exactly that.

Cooling Center open TODAY

Today (Wednesday, September 2) the Cooling Center is open 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Vestal UMC, 115 Ogle Avenue.

Thank you to every person, church, business, and neighbor who showed up this summer — with water, towels, snacks, pet bowls, Venmo gifts, volunteer hours, and prayers.

YOU made it possible for us to offer cool air, cold water, and dignity to our unhoused neighbors and their fur babies. It has been a joy and a privilege to serve.

Vestal UMC Cooling Center — Tuesday & Wednesday

We’re opening the Cooling Center this week as we begin to wrap up the season.

Tuesday, September 1 & Wednesday, September 2

12:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Location:
115 Ogle Avenue, South Knoxville

Cool air, cold water, a safe place to rest, and water bowls for fur babies.

Everyone is welcome. Dignity first.

If extreme heat returns later, we will open again.

In the meantime, stay tuned — Vestal UMC will soon announce our new Warming Support Partner Program so more churches, businesses, and organizations can help unsheltered neighbors this winter.

Not every church can open as an overnight warming center.

But every church, every business, and every organization can do something.

This winter, Vestal UMC is inviting partners to join our Warming Support Partner Program — a simple way to collect supplies, meet a need on the spot, or deliver items to us so we can get them into the hands of our unsheltered neighbors.

Our faith does not ask us to do everything.

It does ask us to do something.

Because every year, with the support of this community, we help save lives, restore dignity, and remind people they are not forgotten.
