Deaf Ministry in Ohio

In northern Ohio, God is blessing a ministry unlike any I have ever seen. It is a ministry focused on reaching people who are often overlooked in society—the deaf community. Many who cannot hear are frequently left out because of the communication barriers they face, but that is not the case at Life Sign Deaf Baptist Church.

At this church, people are welcomed, cared for, and deeply loved by Scott Crabtree and his wife, Tricia Crabtree. Since coming to the ministry in 2018, they have faithfully served this community, and God has provided in incredible ways. The church now has a building that has recently been paid off, a testimony to God’s faithfulness and provision.

This is truly a ministry you need to experience firsthand. We were able to see the effort, patience, and compassion required to communicate with people who cannot hear, and in some cases, those who also struggle with sight loss. It was a powerful reminder that the Gospel is for everyone. Mission dollars are being used to build the kingdom of God by reaching people who are too often forgotten.

Statistics say that nearly 98% of deaf people have never heard a clear presentation of the Gospel. That alone shows why ministries like this are so important. It was a unique and moving experience to watch people who could not hear, and many who could not speak, worship God with joy and sincerity. At the end of the day, whether someone is deaf or hearing, blind or seeing, Jesus loves them and is worthy of their worship. Every person can worship God. We would love for you to join us on April 26 for a special day at our church as we focus on missions. We’re excited to welcome Bro. Leland Johnson and his wife Naomi, along with missionaries T. Jay and Hannah Bing.

Bro. T. Jay will be leading our congregational singing and sharing a special, and Bro. Leland will be bringing a challenging and encouraging message about getting involved in missions during both services, Sunday morning at 10:45 AM and Sunday evening at 6:00 PM.

Make plans now to be part of this meaningful Missions Emphasis Sunday. We’re trusting the Lord to work in hearts, and we would love for you to be there.

Following the morning service, join us for an international banquet, bring a dish to share from around the world and enjoy a time of fellowship together.

As you prepare, take time to pray about your part in Faith Promise Missions. What would the Lord have you give this year to help reach the world with the Gospel?

Belize Recap: A Work That Truly Matters

You never quite know what you will encounter when you step into another country, but what we experienced in Belize was a powerful reminder of what truly matters. The afternoons were hot, often without the comfort of air conditioning, yet the evenings brought a welcome coolness that we did not take for granted. Even in the simplest things, we were reminded how God provides.

What stands out most is not the climate or the culture, but the undeniable hand of God on this ministry. To see where it began, with nothing more than a home, and to now witness five completed buildings along with a school currently under construction, is nothing short of remarkable. This is not just growth. This is purpose being fulfilled. While there were no familiar American restaurants, and meals looked different than what we are used to, even those small adjustments reminded us that we were not there for comfort, but for calling. Jess and I prepared our lunches each day, grateful for the opportunity to simply be part of the work.

But the greatest weight, the deepest importance, lies in the ministry happening every single day. The level of illiteracy among children is staggering, and it is not isolated. It is generational. Parents cannot read. Grandparents cannot read. And without intervention, children follow the same path. This is where the school becomes more than just a building. It becomes a turning point for an entire generation.

When a child learns to read, everything changes. They are no longer limited. They can open the Word of God and read it for themselves. They can understand truth, grow in knowledge, and step into a future that was previously out of reach. We were told of a young lady who received important test results. Though she could speak Spanish, English, and Creole, she could not read any of them. Four other adults in the home were the same. The missionary’s wife had to be called just to read the results. Words, in any language, were meaningless to them. That is the reality here.

This is why the school is so important. It is not just educating children. It is breaking cycles. It is giving hope. It is changing generations. The desks that were provided are not just furniture. They represent opportunity. They give a child a place to sit, to learn, and to begin a journey that could transform their entire life.

When you invest in this ministry, you are not just meeting a need for today. You are shaping tomorrow.

We made it to Belize Monday afternoon. We have been able to see firsthand the work being put into the new school. Chairs that our church helped purchase will be delivered later this week. We have met some wonderful people and been able to help with a few projects. Junior and Brandi have a beautiful property and we know it will be used to reach many with the gospel.
