Someone took our two small buckets of sand and 1 of our large cigarette holders recently. As a result, there are butts everyone for the first time. Does anyone have sand or small buckets they could donate by our 2 doors?

Our mission is to build community, support and love so people have help staying in their homes.

When we talk about homelessness, it's important to understand what can lead someone to lose their housing.

Many people may assume mental health challenges or substance use are the primary causes of homelessness. In reality, only 6.5% of individuals report those factors as the reason they became unhoused. More often, these challenges develop or worsen after someone experiences the trauma and instability of being without housing.

In Knoxville, the Office of Housing Stability reported homelessness increased by 50% from 2021 to 2022, while rents rose 9.6% from 2022 to 2023 (According to reports from NAR), a rate more than four times the national average.

For many individuals and families, rising housing costs, unexpected hardships (such as a health crisis), and a shortage of affordable housing create barriers to maintaining stable housing.

At Volunteer Ministry Center, we see these challenges every day. In 2025, we served 3,069 neighbors experiencing homelessness or housing instability, and 1,499 individuals secured permanent housing through VMC.

Homelessness is complex, but housing is the solution. By understanding the realities behind homelessness and supporting proven, housing-focused approaches, we can build a stronger, more compassionate community for everyone.

Thank you Kaity for 144 tea bags which will last us 3 weeks at The Table. We go though 20 pounds of sugar a week in sweet tea, lemonade, and coffee. It takes a lot to satisfy the thirst of 125+ people a week as they find community, food, and Jesus. Will you consider supporting us with a finacial gift in a check, venmo, Give Butter or through our Amazon Prime list?

Many people did not believe The Table would work, be successful, nevertheless thrive. If God gives the vision, God will give the provision. I’m reminded that truth often meets resistance not because it is unconvincing, but because it is inconvenient.
We strive to contine being a place where All people can feel like family. Where we all can Belong, Believe, and Be Hope for others. Will you join the mission by serving or supporting financially?
This is a place where people can dream again.
