United Methodist Church of Kent

United Methodist Church of Kent We are a dynamic and growing congregation reaching out with the good news and love of Jesus Christ!

The United Methodist Church of Kent is a dynamic and growing congregation of over 1100 members. Meeting now on a 22 acre campus on the east side of Kent, the congregation, which has a nearly 200 year history, continues to reach out with the good news and love of Jesus Christ to our community. Our mission is to help persons become aware of God’s seeking love as shown especially in Jesus Christ, and

to respond in faith, in love, in service, and with gifts. United Methodists have often been characterized as “people of a warm heart” – a heart warmed by Christ and showing warmth to others. We invite you to join with us as we grow in God’s love together.

Here’s a thought. It’s Palm Sunday. We celebrate Jesus entering into town on a donkey as prophesied. Could that have been a protest? That’s a provocative thought. But that walk was meant to stir up attention. It was meant to create a reaction. And we have 3 choices to that walk of Christ into town. 1. We can turn away and leave. 2. We can just watch or 3. We can throw our garments to the ground that Jesus would walk on them. An act of recognition that a king is entering. An act that can be witnessed and reported. We do have a choice. What is yours?

Worship Plans for Sunday, January 25

With the current forecast for snow to arrive tonight and continue throughout the day tomorrow, I have received a few questions about whether we might cancel tomorrow's in-person worship service. After meeting with United Women in Faith, who have prepared and plan to lead worship tomorrow, we do intend to meet for in-person worship at 10 am in the Sanctuary.

However, if you feel unsafe traveling tomorrow morning, please prioritize your safety, stay home, and worship with us online. If we need to adapt our worship service due to folks being unable to travel safely, we will do that, but we will still offer some opportunity for worship at 10 am, both in the Sanctuary and online. Deb Saito will be our preacher for tomorrow's United Women in Faith worship service, and you will not want to miss her personal and powerful story, so please join us in whatever way you can do so safely.

Be safe. Be well. Be warm. And don't forget to check on your neighbors and vulnerable persons in our community during the challenging weather.

Peace,
Pastor Nathan

On this Christ the King Sunday, let’s remember that Christ our king’s reign truly began after he died and rose again. It’s not about being a king on earth or during our time on earth It’s about being king in Heaven and for all eternity. Advent starts next week. Join us as we learn about the real Jesus and how we can follow Him in the coming new church year.
