In honor of the North American Tree Climbing Championship hosted by Davey Tree this weekend, here's a fun fact:
We have a very famous tree on the church property!
The story behind this Cucumber tree is that from 1920 to 1937 every Davey employee who attended the Davey Institute of Tree Sciences training program faced climbing its slick trunk as one of the program’s “exams.” As a result, Ripley’s Believe it or Not declared the tree the most-climbed tree in the U.S. Here, Long-time Davey employee and trainer Wh**ey Myers demonstrates the heel-to-toe, wrap-around climbing method students used. Per the plaque, the tree, located in Kent, Ohio, was officially retired in 1952.
The child holding the plaque is Cecil Davey-Giltz, daughter of Martin L. Davey, Jr.

Hey! We know these guys! And we couldn’t agree more. They are true servants of the church and the community!

April is Volunteer Month! At Habitat for Humanity of Portage County we want to thank and honor those who donate their time, talent and treasure to our mission of “seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity of Portage County brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.”

Introducing loyal volunteers Tom Bordonaro and Scott Stillisano! Week after week, they show up ready to work, bringing dedication, skill, and a strong sense of purpose to every build. For over five years, they’ve volunteered side by side, and their connection extends beyond the build site—their families even attend church together. Their commitment—especially the many Saturdays they’ve given—has made a lasting impact on the families we serve and the homes we help create. In addition to their hands-on work, they’ve stepped up on the Construction Committee, helping ensure projects stayed rolling even through staffing delays. Whether it’s swinging a hammer, lending a helping hand, or helping guide projects behind the scenes, Tom and Scott truly embody the heart of Habitat. We are incredibly grateful for their continued service and the difference they make in our community! 💙🏡
