Worship time - 10:00am Greers Chapel Baptist Church started as a “brush arbor” meeting in 1933. Jessie Rickman.

After two weeks, those attending felt they needed to build a church. “Judge” Virgil Greer donated one acre of land to build the first church. On November 10, 1935, the church was constituted as Fairview Missionary Baptist Church. On June 12, 1937, the name of the Church was changed to Greers Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in honor of Judge Greer, who donated the land. Later, the word “Missionary

” was dropped. In 1936, an acre of land was donated to the church by the Mont V. Rickman family to start the Greers Chapel Cemetery. Rickman’s son, Mont Dean Rickman was the first burial in the cemetery. The Cemetery is located on Barrett Lakes Boulevard just north of Barrett Parkway. In 1963, the present brick church was built with the sanctuary, choir, and baptistery on the upper lever and Sunday School rooms on the lower level. Prior to this date, baptizing was done in near-by lakes. Later, beautiful stained glass windows were donated in memory or in honor of loved ones. In 1967, a two-story Sunday School room addition as added to the rear of the church. In 1979, a Fellowship Hall was built adjacent to the church. In 1988, a Greers’ family donated a new 45 passenger Blue Bird bus to be used primarily by our senior citizens. Since then several trips have been made from Florida to Washington DC. A bus garage was built to house the bus. In 1997, a beautiful bell tower was built to house the original church bell from the first church. The bell was donated back to the church by Mrs. The walk around the tower is paved with bricks in memory or in honor of loved ones.
