The Diocese of West Missouri

The Diocese of West Missouri The Diocese of West Missouri consists of nearly 50 parishes and congregations, as well as non-parochial ministries, that span the western half of the state.

This page is maintained by several people on behalf of The Diocese of West Missouri. To avoid any confusion, Bishop Bruce will normally make it clear when a post comes directly from her. Typically the content is selected, and comments are responded to by the Director of Communications. On occasion, we will refer to Bishop Bruce for advice before posting or responding to comments. Sometimes to ensu

re that the author of the comment is clear we will append our Christian names. Guidelines for posting on our page

We welcome and encourage your comments and feedback. If you decide to join the conversation and contribute your thoughts, here are a few things to consider. If your comment has a question we will reply as quickly as possible, but please bear in mind that this page is maintained by staff who may not be available to respond instantly. If in doubt please call the diocesan office at (816) 471-6161. This page is open to all ages with access to the Internet including the diocesan youth, inappropriate language will result in posts or comments being removed. Disrespectful and overly critical comments are not acceptable. Period. Disagreement and differing points of view are fine. They are part of life, and life would be very boring if we all thought the same way. Feel free to discuss and disagree, but be respectful. Life’s hard enough as it is – let’s keep things pleasant. This is a ‘no troll’ zone. Trolls will most likely be ignored, or have their comments removed if we consider their comments likely to be offensive to our visitors. Repeat offenders will be blocked. Be careful to only speak for yourself – don’t tell us what you think other posters are thinking – let them tell us themselves. In plain English: be nice. It’s that simple.

Labor Day

Almighty God, you have so linked our lives one with another that all we do affects, for good or ill, all other lives: So guide us in the work we do, that we may do it not for self alone, but for the common good; and, as we seek a proper return for our own labor, make us mindful of the rightful aspirations of other workers, and arouse our concern for those who are out of work; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Grant us, O Lord, to trust in you with all our hearts; for, as you always resist the proud who confide in their own strength, so you never forsake those who make their boast of your mercy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

There's still time to register for the Diversity & Reconciliation Workshop happening on September 26 at the Benson Convention & Exposition Center in Clinton.

This training fulfills the intent of several General Convention resolutions, which call for leaders at all levels of The Episcopal Church to receive training on the Church’s teaching about racial diversity and other forms of diversity present within the human family.

"In our Baptismal Covenant, we promise to “seek and serve Christ in all persons” and to “strive for justice and peace among all people.” We make these promises not as individuals, but as members of one Body, called to walk together in the way of Christ. Jesus modeled this companionship when he sent his disciples out two by two, reminding us that the work of ministry is not meant to be undertaken alone.

As the two Episcopal dioceses serving the people who call the State of Missouri home, we share a deep history, a common ministry, and a desire to strengthen our companionship in Christ. In that spirit, we are pleased to announce a collaborative arrangement between our two dioceses concerning the work of our Intake Officers."

Congratulations to our new priests; the Rev. Chris Dodson, the Rev. Dr. Richard Liantonio, the Rev. Barbara (Janette) Platter, and the Rev. Brandon Smee who were ordained to the priesthood on Saturday.

Thank you for your ministry and we look forward to seeing the ways you will serve our communities.

Almighty God, the giver of all good gifts, in your divine providence you have appointed various orders in your Church: Give your grace, we humbly pray, to all who are called to any office and ministry for your people; and so fill them with the truth of your doctrine and clothe them with holiness of life, that they may faithfully serve before you, to the glory of your great Name and for the benefit of your holy Church; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Almighty and everlasting God, who gave to your apostle Bartholomew grace truly to believe and to preach your Word: Grant that your Church may love what he believed and preach what he taught; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
