The Diocese of West Missouri

The Diocese of West Missouri The Diocese of West Missouri consists of nearly 50 parishes and congregations, as well as non-parochial ministries, that span the western half of the state.

This page is maintained by several people on behalf of The Diocese of West Missouri. To avoid any confusion, Bishop Bruce will normally make it clear when a post comes directly from her. Typically the content is selected, and comments are responded to by the Director of Communications. On occasion, we will refer to Bishop Bruce for advice before posting or responding to comments. Sometimes to ensu

re that the author of the comment is clear we will append our Christian names. Guidelines for posting on our page

We welcome and encourage your comments and feedback. If you decide to join the conversation and contribute your thoughts, here are a few things to consider. If your comment has a question we will reply as quickly as possible, but please bear in mind that this page is maintained by staff who may not be available to respond instantly. If in doubt please call the diocesan office at (816) 471-6161. This page is open to all ages with access to the Internet including the diocesan youth, inappropriate language will result in posts or comments being removed. Disrespectful and overly critical comments are not acceptable. Period. Disagreement and differing points of view are fine. They are part of life, and life would be very boring if we all thought the same way. Feel free to discuss and disagree, but be respectful. Life’s hard enough as it is – let’s keep things pleasant. This is a ‘no troll’ zone. Trolls will most likely be ignored, or have their comments removed if we consider their comments likely to be offensive to our visitors. Repeat offenders will be blocked. Be careful to only speak for yourself – don’t tell us what you think other posters are thinking – let them tell us themselves. In plain English: be nice. It’s that simple.

Third Sunday after Pentecost

Keep, O Lord, your household the Church in your steadfast faith and love, that through your grace we may proclaim your truth with boldness, and minister your justice with compassion; for the sake of our Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Feast of St. Barnabas

Grant, O God, that we may follow the example of your faithful servant Barnabas, who, seeking not his own renown but the wellbeing of your Church, gave generously of his life and substance for the relief of the poor and the spread of the Gospel; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

As we settle into Ordinary time, the Rev. Canon Chas Marks offers a reflection that tells us Pentecost is anything but.

Ordinary Time in the Church isn't about "nothing special" happening. It's a season of growth, transformation, and learning to recognize God's work in our everyday lives. From our routines at work and home, to the little interruptions that summer brings through vacations and travel, it can be easy to overlook God's love in these moments.

As you start to form new habits and plan your summer, take a moment to read this reflection on how we can live into a prayerful Pentecost season.

"I remember vividly the first time the teachers did the drill. We were told to hide and the police officer, acting as the shooter, came up behind me with two wooden blocks, hit them together and shouted behind me: You are dead.”

Wear Orange Sunday is more than just one day of the year we observe; it is a call for us to continue to love one another and honor the dignity of every person.

As we pass Wear Orange Sunday, observed on June 7 this year, Lenette Johnson reflects on the important of gun violence prevention, especially as a ministry within our diocese.
