Trinity United Methodist Church (Kansas City, MO)

Trinity United Methodist Church (Kansas City, MO) We worship on Sundays at 10:30am in person and online. The history of Trinity has been one of courage, inclusiveness, and faith.

Rooted in the vision of Beloved Community, we celebrate belonging in all its forms—welcoming people of every race, generation, sexual orientation, and walk of life into the heart of our church. We believe all persons regardless of their age, race, sexual orientation, gender, socioeconomic position, challenging condition, or lifestyle are valued equally in the eyes of God and in the life of Trinity

UMC. In 1916, the Howard Memorial Church, located at the Southwest corner of Linwood and Charlotte, and the Hyde Park Church at the corner of Valentine and Broadway, merged, desiring a larger and more beautiful facility. The natural union gave birth to Trinity on July 9, 1916. As we recently passed our 100th birthday, we continue to be a community of diverse people who work together to study, pray, preach and act the love of God and Christ.

As we begin Pride Month, I find myself filled with gratitude for Trinity United Methodist Church and the witness she has offered for so many years.

Long before welcome became popular, Trinity chose courage. Long before inclusion became a common conversation, Trinity was already doing the hard and holy work of making room at the table. Through changing times, difficult conversations, and moments when standing for love came at a cost, this congregation has remained resilient, steadfast, and committed to the dignity and worth of every person.

Pride Month is a celebration, but it is also a reminder. It reminds us that the journey toward justice is never finished. It reminds us that visibility matters, belonging matters, and that every person deserves to know they are loved exactly as they are.

As Trinity's pastor, I am honored to serve a church whose story is marked by courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to our LGBTQ+ siblings. I am proud of who we have been, proud of who we are becoming, and hopeful for the future we continue to build together.

In a world that too often seeks to divide, diminish, or exclude, Trinity continues to bear witness to a different way - a way rooted in love, justice, and community.

This Pride Month, we celebrate the resilience of those who have paved the way, the courage of those who continue the work, and the beautiful diversity that makes God's family whole.

Let this month be a reminder that God's love knows no bounds, and neither should ours.

Happy Pride, Trinity!

Friends,

Last fall, I had the incredible privilege of journeying with 33 friends on a powerful seven-day Civil Rights Pilgrimage through the American South. We visited sacred and moving sites in Memphis, TN; Glendora and Jackson, MS; and Selma and Montgomery, AL, witnessing the profound struggle, resilience, and triumph of the Civil Rights Movement.

I am excited to announce that Trinity UMC will lead another pilgrimage this October. If you or someone you know is interested in joining us, please let me know. Registration is now open at the link in the comments.

Trinitarians - please send this young man a card if you can!

Last fall, a young man came to live at Teresa’s Place. Barely 18 years old and only a senior in high school, he was left to navigate the world alone as circumstances prevented him from remaining in his family home. Despite hearing from trusted adults that he would not graduate and should instead pursue a GED, this young man set his eyes on a goal and continued to move forward. Over the course of the year, he has attended his classes, completed required volunteer hours, and worked on his homework at the kitchen table of our youth emergency shelter. Even while encountering additional setbacks, he persevered, never losing sight of his goal: to receive his high school diploma. We are so happy to share that he completed his last class and will soon be walking the stage in a graduation ceremony with his classmates.

We want him to feel the love and support of an entire community behind him. We’re asking our supporters to help celebrate by mailing a card filled with encouragement, congratulations, and hope for the future to SAVE, Inc., Attn: Graduate, PO Box 45301, Kansas City, MO 64171.

Sometimes even a simple message can remind someone they are seen, valued, and believed in. 🎓
