Avenue Family Church is on mission to advance the Kingdom of God by making disciples of Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit according to Scripture. In 1891, what is known as Avenue Family Church, began as a small Sunday School Mission meeting on the second floor of a building on the corner of Independence and Elmwood Avenue, and was originally known as the Elmwood Baptist Church. The

church, having a rich heritage in the Historic Northeast area, has changed both name and location several times throughout its history, and is now located on Jackson Avenue, just off of Independence Avenue. The church, as it exists today, is almost an entirely new church since 2006. Though our name and location may have changed over the last 120 years, our commitment to hold fast to the truth of Scripture. We continue to teach, train, disciple, and equip the church as we strive to take Christ into every part of our lives. Our vision is to be a fellowship of believers where prayer, worship and the Word are the center of who we are and what we do, as we are obedient to our Lord’s instruction in Matthew 28:19 which says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”
