It is with great sadness, we share the passing of our cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and Deacon, Elias Khalil Shami, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, July 28, at the age of 96.

Elias was born on November 2, 1929, in Jaffa, Palestine. He was the first of eleven children born to Khalil and Shafouka Shami.

In 1957, he immigrated to the United States with three of his siblings, working tirelessly to bring the rest of his family to America just two years later. In 1959, he met and married the love of his life, Diane Yabroudy. Together, they built an extraordinary life rooted in faith, love, and devotion, sharing 66 wonderful years of marriage. They raised four children, all of whom remained within 12 miles of their parents throughout their lives—a testament to the close-knit family and enduring love they cultivated. Their marriage stands as a lasting example of commitment, sacrifice, and unconditional love.

Elias dedicated his life to his faith and to serving others. He was deeply involved in his church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, teaching religious education, and ultimately answering God's call to become a Permanent Deacon in the Maronite Catholic Rite—a vocation he embraced with great joy and humility.

He is lovingly survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Diane; his children, Donna (Tim) Khalil, Michelle (Boyd), and Paul (Jennifer); his 10 cherished grandchildren; and his 7 beloved great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Khalil and Shafouka Shami; his brothers, Emile and George; and his sisters, Betty and Yvette.

Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that his legacy of faith, kindness, and unwavering love will live on through the generations he so deeply cherished.
May he rest in eternal peace, and may his memory be eternal.
