Dear Hunlock Creek Church Family, and Friends,
Five years ago, I showed up at Hunlock Creek Brethren in Christ Church to fill in for a week. Just one Sunday. That was the plan, anyway. Apparently God had a different one — because that one week turned into five years of worshiping, growing, and doing life together.

Now, after a journey none of us could have predicted, we have held our final service.

This wasn't an easy decision, but it was a faithful one. We reached a point where sustaining the ministry the way it needed to be sustained was no longer something we could do — and rather than let things slowly fade, we chose to be intentional about what comes next.

And here's the beautiful thing: this isn't an ending. It's a transition. The vast majority of our congregation is moving together to Sweet Valley Church of Christ, and the body of Christ continues — just in a different home. The Kingdom work that happened at 894 Hartman Road was real, and it doesn't stop because a building closes.

To every person who walked through those doors, volunteered their time, led worship, taught a class, prayed a prayer, shared a meal, or simply showed up on a Sunday morning — thank you. You made this place what it was. You were the church. You still are.
It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to serve as your pastor. I came for a week. I stayed for a calling.

"For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus." — Philippians 1:6

The church in Sardis had fooled everyone—except Jesus. To their community, they looked vibrant. Maybe they had a beautiful building, respected leaders, good community standing. Their reputation was solid.

But Jesus sees past the facade. "You have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead."

This is perhaps the most chilling diagnosis in all seven letters. Not struggling, not compromising, not lukewarm—dead. Going through the motions with no spiritual pulse.

How does a church die while maintaining a good reputation? Gradually. You keep the programs but lose the power. You maintain the traditions but miss the transformation. You focus on looking good rather than being good.

It's like a beautiful tree that looks healthy from a distance, but when you get close, you realize it's hollow inside. One strong wind, and it's going to fall.

If Jesus were to write a letter to you individually, what would He say?

What would He commend? Maybe your faithfulness in a difficult job, your perseverance through illness, your quiet service that nobody notices, your genuine love for His people
What would He correct? Maybe your spiritual apathy, your comfortable compromise, your self-sufficiency, your cold orthodoxy, your tolerance of sin.

What would He call you to overcome? Maybe fear, maybe pride, maybe materialism, maybe perfectionism, maybe despair.

The same Jesus who walked among the seven golden lampstands is walking through your life right now. He sees everything—the good, the bad, the ugly, and the beautiful. And He loves you enough to tell you the truth.
