Scripture Readings
📖 Epistle: Galatians 3:23–29; 4:1–5
📖 Gospel: Mark 5:24–34

In today’s Gospel, we encounter the woman who had suffered for twelve years. She quietly reached out in faith, touching only the hem of Christ’s garment, believing that He alone could heal her. The Lord responded not only by restoring her body but also by affirming her faith:

“Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace.” (Mark 5:34)

Her example reminds us that Christ sees every silent prayer, every hidden struggle, and every act of faithful perseverance. Even when we feel unnoticed by the world, we are never unnoticed by God.

The Epistle from St. Paul reminds us that through Christ we are no longer separated by worldly distinctions but are united as sons and daughters of God through faith and Holy Baptism. We are called to live as heirs of God’s Kingdom, reflecting His love, mercy, and truth in our daily lives.

As we honor St. Kyriaki the Great Martyr, may her courage strengthen us to remain steadfast in our Orthodox faith, trusting Christ in every circumstance.

☦️ Praying Through the Day: The Orthodox Office of the Hours

One of the great treasures of the Orthodox Church is the sanctification of time through prayer. Rather than reserving prayer for Sunday morning alone, the Church invites us to weave prayer throughout the entire day through what is known as the Office of the Hours.

Each service corresponds to a particular time and event in our salvation:

🌅 First Hour (6:00 a.m.)
Offered at the beginning of the day, the First Hour asks Christ, the True Light, to guide our thoughts, words, and actions. As the sun rises, we seek the Light that never sets.

☀️ Third Hour (9:00 a.m.)
Commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles at Pentecost. We pray for the renewing and indwelling of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

🌞 Sixth Hour (12:00 noon)
Recalls Christ’s Crucifixion. At midday we pause to remember His sacrifice and offer prayers of repentance and thanksgiving.

🌇 Ninth Hour (3:00 p.m.)
Marks the hour of our Lord’s death upon the Cross. We reflect on His saving Passion and the immeasurable love shown for our salvation.

🌆 Vespers (Evening)
As daylight fades, we thank God for the blessings of the day and entrust ourselves to His care through the night.

🌙 Compline (Before Sleep)
A peaceful service of repentance, reflection, and preparation for rest, reminding us to place our souls in God’s hands.

🌌 Midnight Office
A watchful service that calls us to spiritual vigilance, remembering Christ’s Second Coming and the need to be prepared.

🌄 Matins (Orthros)
The Church’s morning service celebrating Christ’s Resurrection and the beginning of a new day in His grace.

The Office of the Hours teaches us that every hour belongs to God. Whether we pray the full services, read portions at home, or simply pause throughout the day to offer a prayer, we are reminded that Christ is present in every moment.

“Pray without ceasing.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:17
