Good morning, Church!

I hope that everyone who joined us in fasting yesterday found it to be a fulfilling response to God’s work in the Kingdom. Personally, I fasted in response to God’s goodness in my life and in our church. That may be a bit ironic - fasting as an expression of gratitude - as so often Christian tradition is to feast in gratitude. But as we learned on Sunday, there are scriptural examples of fasting in response to God’s blessings.

The song linked below, I think, illustrates the point well. There is a particular line that says “I give you all that I am, because you give me chance after chance.”

What a beautiful expression of surrender in response to God’s consistent goodness and mercy and grace. And ultimately, isn’t that what fasting is? Surrender in response to how God moves in this world?
