So my philosophy of travel is 'if you are going to fly eight hours to get somewhere, get everything you can out of it'. So, we left Paris for a few days in our favorite city, London. Day one consisted of hitting the markets, fish and chips, and a tour of Buckingham Palace. Pictures were not allowed inside, but we did get to take some of the back of the palace, pond and all.

Normandy behind us, it is back to Paris for some sightseeing, an anniversary celebration dinner, and a visit on Sunday to Sacred Heart Cathedral.

Omaha Beach and the site of the D-Day Invasion was our next stop and one of the reasons we took this trip. The beach is wide and sandy and surrounded by hills and cliffs. Thus the first wave of US soldiers to arrive were sitting ducks for the Germans hidden in the cliff cut-outs. It was not until a group of Rangers scaled the cliffs and took out the gunmen that things started to change.

Here I was reminded of the price of evil and how it cannot rise to power again.

Rouen was where we settled for our visit to the D-Day Invasion sites. Rouen is a modern city with an ancient history. It is the place where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake (site seen in picture with tall cross). The ancient Cathedral has some beautiful sites and is the burial site of Richard the Lionheart, King of England who died in crusades in France.
