Over the couple of months after Easter you'll find several special days embedded in the liturgical year. The next is this coming Sunday celebrating the body and blood of Christ. It's because it's really, really real - Jesus is really really present in the humble gifts we share during Mass. It's such an astonishing fact of our faith that many have difficulty believing. Join us for a glimpse of the divine in the simple gifts of the earth, Sunday June 7th following the 10:30am Mass with a procession and prayers.

Did you know that Thomas Aquinas is deeply connected to the Feast called Corpus Christi?

Pope Urban IV commissioned St. Thomas Aquinas to compose the liturgical texts and hymns for the Feast of Corpus Christi. These include ones that you have probably heard: “Pange Lingua,” including the famous “Tantum Ergo”.

Today is Memorial Day in our nation, and the office will be closed.
Gracious God, on this Memorial Day, we seek your guidance and wisdom. Help us to make choices that promote peace, justice, and unity. Guide our leaders and protect our servicemen and women as they carry out their duties. Amen

Lots of good things coming up in the next few weeks - we are adding in lots of extra hours that the church will be open for you to come by the church for prayer, and a special procession the Church does each year. Please note: The office and thrift store will be closed tomorrow for Memorial Day, but you can come for Mass at 9:00am and a garden prayer service for those who have lost their lives for our country. Pentecost Sunday - The great feast that marks the birth of the Christian Church by the power of the Holy Spirit, Pentecost Sunday, is May 24. Pentecost means "fiftieth day" and is celebrated 50 days after Easter. Red is the liturgical color for this day and the Faithful are encouraged to wear red to Mass that day. Red is symbolic of the love of the Holy Spirit and recalls the tongues of fire in which the Holy Spirit descended on the apostles that first Pentecost. The color red also reminds us of the blood of the martyrs. These are the believers of every generation who by the power of the Holy Spirit hold firm to the true faith even at the cost of their lives.
Look around you as you drive in Southwest Florida and you will see the Poinciana Tree. It blooms in vibrant shades of fire: reds, oranges, and even a few yellows on the drive to RSW. The Poinciana is known as the Pentecost tree because of its perfect blooms erupting in time for Pentecost.
