Sermon Scripture: 1 Samuel 7:12

As our congregation reaches a hundred years, in the midst of our celebrations, we also want to remember all that God has done. The prophet Samuel once set up a memorial stone between two towns and named it Ebenezer, the stone of help, so that anyone who passed by would remember who had protected and sustained them through all the celebrations and trials they had experienced thus far.

This morning, on our Centennial Homecoming Sunday, we are setting up our own memorial stone, with help from a few guests who have journeyed on this road alongside us. Together we proclaim: “Thus far God has helped us,” and “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”

Our Story, Worship and Testimony
Worship Service, June 20, 2026

2. Keep a slip of paper and a pen within reach, along with a bowl or another safe place to set it. There will be a time tonight to write down a burden you are ready to lay down and to leave it in God's keeping.

On the night they reached Emmaus, two travelers recognized the risen Jesus in the breaking of bread, and they asked one another, "were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road?" For a hundred years this congregation has walked its own Emmaus road, and tonight we gather to tell the stories of where our hearts have burned within us along the way.

Life is beautiful, life is hard, the good and the bad come and go, and through all of it God has remained faithful. Together we listen, we remember, and we hand over what we were never meant to carry, trusting the one who promised rest for the weary.

Sermon Scripture: Romans 12:1-2

When congregations begin to grow, there is a natural pull toward activity that is not always sustainable. We start looking for programs to launch, ministries to add, and we begin thinking about what all the other successful churches are doing that we should imitate. Yet we have discovered that activity alone can not sustain deep community or lasting spiritual formation. So in 2014 we began asking, who are we, and how do we want to organize our shared life of fatih together.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the opening of Rhythms of Grace: A Centennial Celebration. It was a wonderful evening, and we're so glad you joined us.

As Emmaus Road marks 100 years, this exhibit gives us a chance to look back on our journey with honesty: the seasons of growth, the seasons of letting go, and the grace that has carried us through all of it. The eight artists of Christos Collective share their own stories of faith through their work, and we're grateful for what they've created.

If you couldn't make it, the exhibit is still up, and we'd love for you to come see it.

THIS SUNDAY - Centennial Celebrations kick off!

Our city (our church) would be unrecognizable by those who first founded this congregation, yet our testimony and our story would feel familiar. We are a remnant of the legacy that they planted and tended a hundred years ago.

And what were they planting and tending? A simple commission and a strong desire to serve the Kingdom and the church of Christ in simple faithfulness. Let us remind ourselves who we’ve been and who we are.

Thank you to everyone who gathered with us last Sunday to write, draw, and hang a prayer flag. A single flag alone is just a piece of cloth, but hung beside others, with the Spirit moving through all of them at once, the flags become a sign of what the church is.

Our sanctuary now holds a parable of the Spirit's work among us, and these flags will hang through the long green season ahead as a reminder that the Spirit is still moving, still gathering, still answering the prayers we have written together.
