A message from Rev. Shane.

Hello, I am Rev. Shane Ranschaert, the new Bridge Pastor here at St. Peter's UCC. My journey through life thus far has not been an easy one, but one marked with bending curves and bumps in the road, but each turn has taught me lessons. I came to faith at a young age and entered ministry when I was a Sophomore in High School. I am passionate about evangelism, Community Organizing, Homelessness, Justice Ministry, and Youth Ministry. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Evansville and am currently working on my MDiv at the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. In my free time, you’ll most likely find me outdoors—hiking through the woods, swimming in the sun, or kayaking on the water. Every moment I get to spend with my partner, Joe, and our loyal Coonhound, Charlie, is time well spent. I also appreciate the simple pleasures in life, whether it’s unwinding with a good cigar or diving into a video game for some fun. A passionate student of history, I’m always eager to explore, discover, and learn something new wherever life takes me.

As the first week of school comes to a close, we offer this Back to School Blessing...

Dear God, please bless this new school year. Keep students safe, calm their worries, and help their minds grow. Give teachers wisdom and patience, and fill every classroom with kindness, joy, and love. Give our administrators wisdom for tough choices, patience on hard days, and strength to guide their schools with grace, love, and a steady hand all year long. Give parents calm hearts and steady hands. Grant them extra patience for the busy mornings, the long homework nights, and the moments when they feel tired. Help them to listen with love, speak with kindness, and guide their child with grace. Amen

In isolation, no single congregation can completely answer God’s call to love. Together we are a bold witness to God’s extravagant love for all. We share resources to bring our vision to life.

Gifts from congregations like ours to OCWM Basic Support make it possible for our Conferences and the National Ministries to strengthen local churches and leaders and engage us in mission well beyond our community.

Most of our OCWM Basic Support dollars remain in our Conferences to help local congregations thrive. Direct support in Conferences comes through leadership initiatives, such as communities of practice, committees on ministry, and one-on-one mentoring. Conferences also share in congregational vitality work. This includes conflict transformation, resourcing leaders as they reimagine ministry, and grants to churches.

The National Ministries of the UCC, a crucial partner of our Conference and each congregation, helps us put love into action, especially through ministry that no one congregation could do alone. The National Ministries are organized into these three categories:

1. Love of Church
2. Love of Neighbor
3. Love of Service

On August 16th, St. Peter's will be collecting OCWM offerings. Please prayerfully consider your support of OCWM.
