The fact that women were the first to witness the empty tomb is a radical statement about truth, value, and how God works. In the first-century world, women had very little social authority. Their testimony was often dismissed in courts and undervalued in public life.
If the resurrection story were a fabricated legend designed to persuade people, the Gospel writers would never have chosen women as the primary witnesses to the most important event in Christianity. But the Gospels don’t read like carefully engineered propaganda. They read like eyewitness history.
Before sunrise, while many of the disciples were still hiding in fear and confusion, a small group of women made their way to the tomb of Jesus. They came grieving, expecting death, and carrying spices to honor a crucified Savior. Instead, they found the stone rolled away.
In the most profound reversal in history, God entrusted the first announcement of the resurrection to those society overlooked. The first voices to proclaim Christ risen weren't emperors, priests, military leaders, or philosophers - they were grieving women standing outside an empty tomb at dawn.
This reveals something about the heart of God. He consistently overturns human pride, human status systems, and assumptions about worth. Throughout Scripture, God delights in using the overlooked, the humble, the weak, and the unexpected to display His glory.
The resurrection wasn't staged to impress the powerful. It was revealed to the humble. The same truth confronts the modern world today. God isn't searching for the most influential person in the room, but for hearts willing to seek Him, trust Him, and to follow Him.
